The Engineer, Hydraulic Modeling & Optimization supports Midstream by using hydraulic model analyses to address system changes, improve operating efficiency, identify opportunities for improvement, mitigate risk, and address business questions. This position supports stakeholders throughout Midstream including Projects, Control Center, Business Development, Strategy, Pipeline Integrity, Pipeline and Terminal Operations, and Engineering.

Responsibilities May Include but are not limited to:
  • Apply expertise in hydraulics, pump and compressor operations, use of pipeline DRA (Drag Reducing Additives), and regulatory restrictions to develop hydraulic models.
  • Tune hydraulic models for single and multi-phase steady-state and transient pipeline studies, facility capacity studies, such as surge/overpressure, system design, and pump, compression, and pipeline capacity.
  • Develop simulations to address business questions, costs of operational changes, support growth initiatives, and to provide meaningful results.
  • Provide guidance to project engineers and oversight of 3rd party engineering firms regarding model configuration, design, and operating scenarios for gas, petroleum, and chemical pipelines.
  • Lead team to develop and implement operational cost strategies for all midstream assets, including tool development.
  • Develop and implement pipeline operational cost (OPEX) and operational cost optimization studies.
  • Provide support and analysis for energy contract terms and negotiation.
  • Propose, sponsor, lead and provide expert input to capital projects for system optimization, such as engine replacements, VFD installations, DRA installations, and compressor and pump modifications.
  • Train and mentor team members in hydraulic understanding, modeling, gas gathering pipeline operations, batched liquid pipeline operations, and energy analyses skills.
  • Represent the Hydraulic Modeling and Optimization Team at industry conferences and develop a network of internal and external resources for benchmarking and collaboration.
  • Support Operations and pipeline integrity to manage corrosive components for pipeline integrity and gas plant operation

Required Qualifications
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Valid driver's license
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Advanced or greater proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel
  • Understanding of basic Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulic Modeling
  • Some experience in programming principles required for software operation
  • Willing and able to perform and comply with the following, with or without reasonable accommodation: Ability to travel 10% of the time, including overnight

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced or greater proficiency in the use of multiple hydraulic modeling software packages and tools including: Synergi Pipeline Simulator (SPS), including Model Lab; Nextgen; WinFlow;OLGA; VMG Symmetry; AFT Fathom; Aspen HYSYS; Promax; and others)
  • 5 or more years of experience in the petroleum industry
  • 3 or more years of experience with DOT regulated and unregulated pipeline hydraulic simulation and optimization pipeline systems in Petroleum Liquid, NGL, Chemical, and Gas operation
  • 3 or more years of experience in pipeline field operations or corporate engineering
  • 2 or more years of experience in the Midstream segment of the Oil & Gas Industry
  • CEM Certified (Certified Energy Manager)
  • 1 or more years of experience in energy management economics and contract negotiation
  • Advanced proficiency of rotating equipment (pumps/motors/engines/compressors) efficiency optimization

Midstream

Phillips 66's Midstream business is a safe, reliable and trusted logistics provider for the movement and storage of liquid or gas energy via pipelines or terminals. We are an industry leader in logistics and operate or manage more than 22,000 miles of pipelines that transport crude oil from oil fields to refineries and finished products from refineries to storage terminals. We operate 39 terminals that supply finished products to consumer gas stations, as well as crude oil and NGL storage terminals and NGL fractionation facilities. We also provide the connectivity between the various Phillips 66 business units.
