The Console Supervisor, Bayway Refinery leads a team responsible for day-to-day operations. This role is also responsible for ensuring that operations are executed at optimum cost while meeting or exceeding safety and environmental regulations and performance goals. This role may be responsible for supervising multiple teams.

Responsibilities May Include:
  • Supervising safe, reliable and environmentally sound operations of several refinery processing units through the use of a Honeywell TDC-3000 or Experion computer console in a central control room setting.
  • Supervising/directing hourly represented employees.
  • Meeting product quality specifications, production rate/operating targets and optimizing/maximizing profit and unit throughput.
  • Frequently checking console alarm log to review warning messages and alarms .
  • Completion of required Console Supervisory rounds.
  • Interfacing with technical and other resources to resolve unit and control system operating problems to optimize control strategies.
  • Reviewing of process specifications.
  • Jointly cooperating with other consoles to resolve inter-unit operating problems and ensure safe, reliable and stable refinery wide operations.
  • Reacting calmly to unit emergencies to safely stabilize units.
  • Communicating impacts of unit operations on upstream and downstream units.
  • Coordinating off-shift mechanical support to resolve problems and avoid incident escalations.
  • Interfacing with the Shift Superintendent to identify/communicate critical, operating or mechanical problems, particularly off-shift.
  • Thoroughly communicating with peers at change of shift to ensure complete continuity.
  • Understanding impact of operations on the environment and environmental control units.
  • Performing appropriate critical instrument checks and troubleshooting operating problems.
  • Stewarding and approving hourly employee's timesheets in timekeeping system.
  • Stewarding routine process duties such as safety talks, simulated emergencies, housekeeping, minor maintenance and communicating lessons learned from near-miss reviews or incident investigations to direct reports.

Required Qualifications:
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent or higher.
  • 3 or more years of experience in refinery process operations.
  • Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to work a rotating day/evening schedule including weekends/holidays.
  • Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform/comply with the following:
    • Wear Nomex fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear, and eye protection).
    • Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven).
    • Work outdoors and possibly in inclement weather conditions.
    • Lift and transport materials (up to 50 pounds).
    • Bend, stoop, perform moderate manual labor, work in confined spaces, climb, and work at various levels above the ground.
    • Practice safe work practices and procedures.
  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Information can be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 or more years of experience in a refinery, chemical or pharmaceutical industry.
  • 5 or more years of experience as a Console Supervisor/operator in a refinery or chemical operating facility.
  • 5 or more years of direct experience with Honeywell TDC 2000/3000, Experion, or equivalent computer console systems.
  • 5 or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Proficient in computer applications such as SAP, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Problem solving ability and communication/teamworking skills.
  • Ability to follow safety and operating procedures, handle unit emergencies and communicate appropriately.

The Bayway Refinery is located on the New York Harbor in Linden, New Jersey. Bayway's facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, solvent deasphalting, hydrodesulfurization and alkylation units. The complex also includes a polypropylene plant with the capacity to produce up to 775 million pounds per year. The refinery processes mainly light and medium, low-sulfur crude oil. Foreign crude oil is supplied to the refinery by tanker, and domestic crude oil is supplied through a combination of rail and marine transportation. Within the refinery, Phillips 66 Partners has a rail receiving facility with 75,000 BPD of offloading capacity. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels, as well as petrochemical feedstocks, residual fuel oil and home heating oil. Refined products are distributed to East Coast customers by pipeline, barge, rail car and truck.
