Job SummaryLower 48 Overview

The Lower 48 represents the largest ConocoPhillips business segment today based on production, with high-quality positions in the U.S. unconventionals. These low cost of supply and low GHG-intensity assets have significant upside potential.

The company's large Lower 48 position of 10.3 million net acres, including unconventional holdings of approximately 1.7 million net acres, represents scalable inventory with low cost of supply and low GHG emissions intensity with the potential to generate significant returns over many years of future development. Current major focus areas for the Lower 48 include the Delaware and Midland Basins, part of the world-class Permian Basin, as well as the Eagle Ford and Bakken.

In 2022, net crude oil production was 534 MBOED.

Description

The Sustainable Power Strategy Analyst is a member of the Lower 48 Sustainable Development Strategy and Planning Team, supporting the entire Lower 48 asset base in developing sustainable power sourcing and overall Scope 2 emission reduction strategies. This role will report to the Lower48 SD Strategy and Planning Manager.

This position can be based in Houston, Texas or Midland, Texas.
Job Description
Responsibilities may include:
  • Developing and maintaining relevant electrical load forecasts needed to ensure appropriate electrical transmission and distribution infrastructure is available to meet development plans in consideration of asset specific electrification efforts
  • Collaborating with Facilities/Operations Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Projects teams to understand load growth and ensure alignment with execution of increased electrification and continued success of development plans and MACC emission mitigation efforts
  • Collaborating with key corporate functions including the corporate Low Carbon Team (LCT), Commercial Power, and Chief Economist's Office to ensure efforts and plans are well-aligned and characterized consistent with long term forecasts
  • Developing processes to streamline and optimize integration between business planning and electrical load planning including aggregating forecasts for wholesale power price, region specific transmission and distribution fees, and localized power demand forecasts to develop cumulative power cost models
  • Progressing Lower 48 emissions mitigation strategy with a specific focus on Scope 2 emissions (Scope 2 are indirect GHG emissions associated with the purchase of electricity)
  • Providing BU subject matter expertise on grid interconnection and renewable power generation
  • Evaluating, prioritizing, and executing renewable power sourcing and storage opportunities in collaboration with Commercial power team and Corporate LCT
  • Providing support/leadership to address key strategic challenges associated with increased electrification including supply chain and resource availability limitations
  • Leading BU collaboration with industry peers, regulators, grid operators, and power providers to deliver needed solutions for both our industry and our business

Basic/Required:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Finance, other related field, or foreign equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in Engineering, Commercial, or another related field
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams and Word
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel 10% of the time on a yearly basis

Preferred:
  • Previous experience in upstream oil and gas industry
  • 3+ years of experience in Engineering or strategic planning
  • 3+ years of experience in a large multi-functional team inclusive of office and field-based stakeholders
  • Basic level of proficiency in emissions characterization processes and terminology
  • Experience with power markets and /or electrical transmission and distribution infrastructure planning
  • Experience with interconnection processes and tariffs in at least 1-2 regions in the L48
  • Basic understanding of power flow analysis
  • Experience with renewable project development / execution
  • Self-motivated and creative thinker; delivers high quality work products in a timely manner
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills - translates information so it is received and understood clearly with intention
  • Ability to perform in-depth analysis of complex data quickly and communicate insights effectively
  • Initiative to work without constant supervision, delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals and ability to work on multiple projects in parallel
