This role is within the Rig Technologies (Rig Tech) business unit within EE.

Role Overview: The role is part of improving our business operations and supply chain capabilities in our Rig Technologies (RigTech) business, especially for the spare parts business. Our RigTech business is ~$2.5B in topline revenue and operates an OEM as well as aftermarket business. With the complexity of our supply chain that is spread out across multiple continents, time zones and international borders, the company is seeking a visionary leader who can challenge our status quo, bringing best practices in and leading this transformation phase of our business.

The Senior Director Inventory Management will report to the Senior Vice President of Operational Excellence for RigTech and have responsibilities spanning the RigTech business. The candidate will be responsible for the inventory and fill rate performance across the business with heavy emphasis on the spare parts business. The candidate will also have an important role to play in the footprint of repair facilities and spares warehouse structure across the globe (RigTech network). Based in Houston, the ideal candidate will be a high impact 'doer' with relevant industry experience, strong analytical skills, experience in translating data into actionable insights, and drive to effect change.

  • Lead Inventory Planning and Management across RigTech including the OEM, repairs and spares businesses.
  • Drive meaningful improvements in the network and flow paths of inventory movements across the globe while improving the customer service levels
  • Own the development, implementation and operation of stocking & replenishment strategy, optimal inventory targets and optimization capabilities for the aftermarket parts business.
  • Collaborate with broad stakeholders, including demand and supply side, to minimize risks and inventory investment while maximising customer service levels
  • Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and monitor and evaluate results
Role Details:

Methods & Processes:

  • Develop and implement inventory management strategies: Develop and execute comprehensive inventory management strategies that align with the company's overall goals and objectives. This includes setting inventory targets, establishing inventory control policies, and implementing best practices to optimize inventory levels
  • Inventory optimization: Continuously evaluate and optimize inventory levels to minimize stockouts, reduce excess inventory, and improve inventory turnover. Implement inventory optimization techniques such as ABC analysis, safety stock calculations, and lead time analysis to improve inventory accuracy and availability.
  • Inventory control and accuracy: Implement robust inventory control processes and systems to ensure accurate inventory tracking, reconciliation, and reporting. Conduct regular audits and cycle counts to identify and resolve inventory discrepancies.
  • Network and flow optimization: Continuously evaluate product flows and network (hub and spoke design) to minimize operating cost and inventory needs, while maintaining or improving service levels at or above target
  • Evaluate a 'Pooled' inventory service for enhanced service levels for a set fee
  • Work with operations to develop product level inventory turns and recommend and implement action plans to improve the same
  • Own and implement tools including inventory relocation tools and actively own excess purchase orders and work orders across AfterMarket and Operations
  • Explore delayed differentiation techniques for optimum inventory at multiple Aftermarket geographies while incorporating manufacturing sources and leadtimes
  • Document inventory strategy and establish timelines and actions based on periodic reviews
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, manufacturing, field operations, warehouses, supply and logistics, to align inventory management strategies with overall business objectives. Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement to drive operational excellence.
Data, Analytics, & System:

  • Put in place fit-for-purpose KPIs informed by the leading practices in the industry to measure, monitor and improve the inventory and network performance.
  • Provide inputs on data, including the quality and governance, used in the process; recommend improvement in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders
  • Monitor the external environment to stay up to date on leading analytical capabilities and how they can be applied within the organization.
  • Collaborate with appropriate stakeholder groups in NOV to ensure the right tools are in place being used the right way
People:

  • Lead and impart a performance-driven continuous improvement culture in the organization.
  • Adopt and own the current organization; understand talent and gaps, drive improvement in talent where needed
  • Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and monitor and evaluate results

Experience and Education:

  • Required:
    • Leadership experience in aftermarket business ideally within heavy industrial / Auto / A&D sectors (at least 3 years)
    • 10-15 years' experience with heavier focus on operational management; of which 8 - 10 in inventory management ideally in the aftermarket business
    • Bachelor's Degree in the field of Engineering or Science
    • Strong analytical skills with expertise in inventory management and optimization.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Preferred:
    • Familiarity with oil and gas rig business
    • Masters degree in engineering, business or related field
    • Certification in supply chain or operations such as CPIM, CSCP
