Position Summary

Are you passionate about solving complex problems? Join our dynamic team and become a vital contributor to the Neutral Buoyancy Lab (NBL) Landing and Recovery Team! The NBL is an astronaut training facility in which astronauts perform simulated extra-vehicular (spacewalk) tasks in preparation for upcoming missions. As an integral part of our organization, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the flawless execution of OSS support.

Duties & Responsibilities

As the Open Water Landing & Recovery support evolves and includes Artemis (Orion) & Commercial Crew (SpaceX and Boeing) programs, it becomes critical to have dedicated resources to support the development, maintenance, deployment, and operational use (training, rescue, retrieval, and recovery) of Open-Water hardware. This role will be under the guidance of the Orion Hardware Open Water Operations and Maintenance Lead and the Orion Landing & Recovery Open Water Lead, with the goal of primary support for hardware Operations and Maintenance, specifically pressure systems such as manifolds, flex hoses and Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessels (COPVs), inflatables, custom rigging & lifting hardware.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manages the maintenance and inventory of Landing & Recovery Open-Water hardware. This entails the use of dedicated databases such as iMaint, Discrepancy Reporting System, COPV & high-pressure hose database, COPV fill cycle database, etc.
• Routinely engages and coordinates with operational management, administration, safety, and IT to ensure open water hardware storage facility meets program needs.
• Inventories, maintains, and tracks NASA's Open-Water ground support equipment.
• Provides logistics & operational support during Open-Water events, both at the NBL and remote site testing.
• Assists with repair of open water hardware as needed.
• Partners with NBL's Exploration Ground Support (EGS) team to develop hardware and testing methodologies for landing and recovery operations of Spaceflight Capsules.
• Partners with NBL's EGS team to develop inspection and deployment checklist, maintenance manuals, and other documentation as required.
• Conducts quarterly rescue equipment inspections.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma.
• Minimum of three (3) years' experience managing inventory and maintenance management programs, systems, and databases.
• Forklift certified or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
• Must pass Johnson Space Center physical examination.
• US Citizenship.
• SCUBA Certified.

PREFERRED SKILLS

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
• Experience with Hardware Maintenance Systems such as iMaint.
• Experience with Discrepancy Reporting Systems.
• Data Management experience / training.
• Experience with inventory and equipment management of government hardware.
• Pressure systems experience.
• Hazmat experience.
• Overhead crane certified.
• Experience with inspection cycles and resource planning.
• MS Office Suite.
