JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood are actively expanding our project delivery portfolio within the United Arab Emirates and as such are seeking additional experienced personnel for upcoming work.

One of the major projects we are seeking additional personnel for, is to manage the Design, Procurement, Construction Management, Commissioning Handover to Operations, for an EPCm portfolio of safety critical systems across multiple offshore assets.

The EPCm project is both very exciting and challenging, with a real focus on portfolio delivery to maximize efficiency and deliver the multiple project scopes safely with no impact on production. The project is due to commence in 2024 and has an estimated duration of three years, however this is a perfect opportunity for the right people to join the growing 'Wood Team' in the United Arab Emirates and forge long-lasting careers with great opportunities for growth and development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Objective:
  • The safe and effective delivery of a portfolio of brownfield safety critical projects on multiple offshore platforms; including large production complexes (multiple platforms linked by bridges) and remote Wellhead Towers, within an EPCM contracting model.
  • Management of the project from Design through to Handover to Operations, covering all elements of Engineering, Procurement, Construction Management, Completions and Commissioning across the portfolio of projects.
  • Establishment and management of the project team to provide delivery excellence across the portfolio of projects.
  • Provide certainty and confidence to the client and Wood project sponsor that the contract is being delivered safely with a strong focus on optimization, cost control, risk management, schedule adherence and stakeholder management.
  • Deliver the assigned projects within the established commercial framework, with responsibility for the Project P&L account.

Project Execution
  • Technical and commercial responsibility for execution of the projects in all matters covered within the terms of the contract (from initial contract review to project close-out).
  • P & L responsibility with associated commercial and financial accountability including revenue delivery, margin and overhead management, budget and forecast determination and attainment, risk and opportunity reviews, cost controls, accounts payable/billing and cash collection.
  • Organize the project team, define individual responsibilities and motivate team members towards successful achievement of specified project goals, particularly through regular project meetings.
  • Identify and communicate project team objectives in accordance with the contract terms, scope of work and corporate policy.
  • Delegate work to the project team members in a manner that encourages individual responsibility.
  • Provide leadership and management to ensure safe, cost effective and timely resolution of all interfaces.
  • Develop and maintain effective working practices for the project management team.
  • Responsibility and accountability for leadership and excellence in the achievement of coordinating both technical and governance through the Stages of the Projects
  • Coordinate site supervision work, manage various contractors, and monitor progress of work
  • Oversee all critical developments of project master program, including establishment of milestones and phasing.
  • Ensure compliance with technical specifications and approving quality of main construction materials as per standards.
  • Ensures competence of project team members to carry out assigned work
  • Contributes to and reviews the project proposal and plan to determine timeframe, procedures for accomplishing the project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of the project.
  • Setting of project evaluation parameters.
  • Negotiates changes to project scope or specification with the customer. Follows Change Management process to identify and approve modifications to scope, cost, schedule and quality.
  • Pursue and develop opportunities for innovation, such as digitalisation and technology use, work share and global engineering centres, to bring value to Wood and customer
  • Establish project procedures and lead production of project execution plan including the scope of work, deliverables list, master schedule, budget, org charts, risk register etc.
  • Reports project progress to senior management and the customer.
  • Responsible for delivery of agreed schedule and financial performance, proactively intervening to avoid slippage.
  • Leads ongoing focus on risk identification and mitigation during project execution
  • Responsible for the project HSSE leadership, ensures a program of initiatives and auditing schedule are established and that HSSE and quality management issues are proactively addressed.
  • Guides and directs a multidiscipline project team, which will include external specialists and may involve staff from multiple offices and sites.
  • Facilitates the set-up of information management systems / applications as applicable to suit various life phases of projects and manage information management within the project team.
  • Participate in assurance activities and peer reviews.
  • Resolve conflicts, challenges and problems related to a large multi-cultural and multi-discipline workforce.
  • Participation in design review, 3D Model Reviews, Value Engineering, Risk Management workshops, constructability Reviews, PHSERs , IPR etc.
  • Carryout Technical Evaluation of Bids, Issue Bid Technical Clarifications, Technical Evaluation Reports and Recommendations.

Leadership
  • Guides and directs project team including external specialists and construction contractor, working in multiple offices and sites.
  • Is an advocate and role model for ethical behaviour and compliance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Coaches, mentors and empowers others to make decisions within established parameters

Working relationship:

Internal:
  • Provides the interface and maintains effective relationships with other contributors to the project.
  • Guides and directs project team and functional support teams as required.
  • Interfaces with global execution centres as required and manages scope across all offices involved.
  • Interface and coordinate with Operational and/or Contract Management to ensure delivery of operational goals.

External:
  • Primary point of contact for customer on assigned scope.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive and effective customer relationship, ensuring payment terms are met, and communicating any delays.
  • Creates strong relationships with key stakeholders including Clients Offshore Operations Team.
  • Manages relationships with external suppliers and sub-contractors and resolves cost, schedule and quality issues. May act as company representative for defined project scopes and play a role in contractual negotiations.

Level of influence and decision making authority:
  • Actions and decisions typically have a significant influence on the technical, operational and financial results of projects they are assigned to manage.
  • Work is performed under general direction and is reviewed for conformance with policies and general efficiency
  • Engages with Project Director to ensure key issues are addressed and any controversial matters with potentially far-reaching implications are addressed expediently.
  • Solves problems requiring an understanding of financial and commercial implications.
  • Solves problems requiring understanding of social and political implications.
  • Reviews and Approves proposals and call-offs within delegation of authority, ensuring compliance with contracting policy and standards of ethical conduct. Engages Project Director for approval of items above delegated level of authority.
QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

  • B.S. or equivalent degree in Engineering from an accredited university
  • Project Management Professional (PMP), associate in project management (APM) or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years relevant experience in major Brownfield oil & gas offshore projects, including at least five (5) years in similar position.
Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable ability to manage EPC and / or EPCM contracts for offshore Brownfield Oil & Gas projects for major Oil & Gas companies.
  • Experience of managing offshore projects containing marine spreads and materials movement and logistics as part of the scope.
  • Specific experience in the Middle East for renowned clients, preferred.
  • Personality, ability, and experience to drive, manage, direct, and guide the team to achieve project objectives.
  • Thorough understanding of project management techniques and practices
  • Experience of developing and implementing measures of success and benefits on several projects.
  • High level of professional competence and management skills to motivate the team to achieve high quality performance during the execution of the portfolio of projects.
  • Demonstrable experience in stakeholder management, including implementation of Interface Management Plans and the effective management to achieve project success.
  • Thorough knowledge of project success and benefits management.
  • Demonstrable ability to drive cash flow management and projection/forecast of cost at completion.
  • Demonstrable experience of commercial and technical risk management.
  • Good knowledge of contracting models, conditions, types, and their suitability in different situations.
  • Demonstrable ability to deliver effective project initiation on multi-phase projects and produce project execution plans.
  • Experienced in using common estimating techniques to derive estimates and costs on standard projects.

  • Good knowledge of industry and company risk management processes. Well versed in qualitative assessment methods and some knowledge of quantitative assessment techniques.
  • Experience of implementing successful project performance improvement activities and techniques for recovering poor performance.
  • Understands the needs of information management requirements in the project phases (operation), internal (contractual, statutory) and asset (customer) documentation.
  • Well versed in international and company quality assurance standards
  • Knowledge of commercial and contract conditions applicable to the procurement of various types of goods and services.
  • Robust knowledge of all handover and close-out activities required for customer, company, and suppliers.
