JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood are actively expanding our project delivery portfolio within the United Arab Emirates and as such are seeking additional experienced personnel for upcoming work.

One of the major projects we are seeking additional personnel for, is to manage the Design, Procurement, Construction Management, Commissioning Handover to Operations, for an EPCm portfolio of safety critical systems across multiple offshore assets.

The EPCm project is both very exciting and challenging, with a real focus on portfolio delivery to maximize efficiency and deliver the multiple project scopes safely with no impact on production. The project is due to commence in 2024 and has an estimated duration of three years, however this is a perfect opportunity for the right people to join the growing 'Wood Team' in the United Arab Emirates and forge long-lasting careers with great opportunities for growth and development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

JOB OBJECTIVE:
  • The safe and effective delivery of a portfolio of brownfield safety critical projects on multiple offshore platforms; including large production complexes (multiple platforms linked by bridges) and remote Wellhead Towers, within an EPCM contracting model.
  • Management of the project from Design through to Handover to Operations, covering all elements of Engineering, Procurement, Construction Management, Completions and Commissioning across the portfolio of projects.
  • Establishment and management of the project team to provide delivery excellence across the portfolio of projects.
  • Provide certainty and confidence to the client and Wood project sponsor that the contract is being delivered safely with a strong focus on optimization, cost control, risk management, schedule adherence and stakeholder management.
  • Deliver the assigned projects within the established commercial framework, with responsibility for the Project P&L account.

Project Execution

  • P & L responsibility with associated commercial and financial accountability including revenue delivery, margin and overhead management, budget and forecast determination and attainment, risk and opportunity reviews, cost controls, accounts payable/billing and cash collection
  • Contributes to and reviews the project proposal and plan to establish timeframe, procedures for accomplishing the project, resource requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of the project. Ensures adherence to corporate policy and best practice, and sets project evaluation parameters.
  • Negotiates changes to project scope with the customer. Follows Change Management process to identify and approve modifications to scope, cost, schedule and quality
  • Pursues and develop opportunities for innovation, such as digitalisation and technology use, work share and high value engineering centres, to bring value to Wood and customer
  • Approves project procedures and project execution plan including the scope of work, deliverables list, master schedule, budget, org charts, risk register etc
  • Ensures competence of project team members to carry out assigned work
  • Oversees proposals and call-offs (may be single projects) within delegation of authority, ensuring compliance with contracting policy and standards of ethical conduct.
  • Monitors adherence to schedule, cost and quality and proactively intervenes to avoid slippage
  • Ensures that the required project management software systems are established for the project and the supporting training is completed
  • Ensure the project assurance protocol and schedule are established
  • Involved in establishing terms and conditions, and wider scope and larger size of projects may require more visibility in the community as well as activity in attracting project staff
  • Responsible for the project HSSE leadership, ensures a program of initiatives and auditing schedule are established, and that HSSE and quality management issues are proactively addressed
  • Drives good practices, including corporate initiatives, across projects and programs

  • Resolves complex issues which are escalated by project team
  • Participate in assurance activities and peer reviews
  • The complexity, potential impact and political sensitivity of projects/programmes of this size (particularly in an international context), frequently require the project director to be involved in closing the deal, attracting specialized staff from outside the organization, and managing relationships with local officials and community groups as well as the customer and contractors, all based on their credibility and proven track record

Leadership

  • Guides and directs large project team(s), which includes project managers, external specialists and involving staff from multiple offices and sites.
  • Is an advocate and role model for ethical behaviour and compliance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Teaches and empowers others to make decisions within established parameters

Working relashinships:

Internal:
  • Oversight of multiple Project Managers and project teams.
  • Monitors effectiveness of current relationships, and counsels others to take actions as needed.
  • Guides and directs a large diverse project team which may include specialists from outside the company and from other countries.
  • Ensures effective interface across all business units / functions / specialist services, to provide project teams with the support required to deliver the portfolio of projects.

External:
  • Represents the organization externally at the highest levels with the customer, in the community and with contractors.
  • Works with other leaders to develop relationship management strategies for developing and maintaining strong ties with key external contacts including customers, governments, community groups, competitors.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive and effective customer relationship, ensuring the contract is delivered in line with contractual terms and conditions.
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders including interaction with suppliers and subcontractors to resolve cost, schedule and quality issues.

Level of influence and decision making authority:
  • Requires limited guidance, works within high level policy guidance; work is assessed in relation to objectives and outcomes.
  • Leads a large diverse project team including specialists from outside the company and from other countries.
  • Actions and decisions typically influence the long-term profitability, operating and technical results of the business group.
  • Solves complex problems requiring an understanding of social, political and cultural issues as well as technical and business issues; exercises broad mature judgement in developing innovative solutions.


QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Engineering and / or MSc. in Project Management from an accredited university.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Associate in Project Management (APM) or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of twenty five (25) years relevant experience in the oil & gas industry, including fifteen (15) years of outstanding project management experience for major Brownfield oil & gas offshore projects in excess of $50 Million.
Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable ability to manage EPC and / or EPCM contracts for offshore Brownfield Oil & Gas projects for major Oil & Gas companies.
  • Experience of managing large offshore projects containing marine spreads and materials movement and logistics as part of the scope.
  • Specific experience in Middle East for renowned clients, preferred.
  • Personality, ability, and experience to drive, manage, direct and guide the team to achieve contract objectives.
  • High level of professional competence and management skills to motivate the team to achieve high quality performance during the execution of the portfolio of projects.
  • Expert in stakeholder management with extensive experience in managing challenging stakeholders and able to coach and advise others in this area.
  • Thorough knowledge of project success and benefits management.
  • Demonstrable ability to drive cash flow management as well as projection/forecast of cost at completion.
  • Demonstrable experience of commercial and technical risk management.
  • Advanced knowledge of various forms of vendor contracts across many types of goods and services; able to create new appropriate contracting frameworks and negotiate to successful conclusion.
  • Robust knowledge of supplier categorization and experienced in devising appropriate commercial acquisition strategies.
  • Experienced in assembling and managing multi-phase project budgets, including risk contingencies.
  • Experience of managing complex major project start-up, produce and communicate the Contract Execution Plan.
  • Expert Practitioner in Risk Management processes, well versed in how risks are transposed into cost, time and contingency estimates and forecasts.
  • Experience of implementing successful project performance improvement activities and techniques for recovering poor performance.
  • Understands the needs of information management requirements in the project phases (operation), internal (contractual, statutory) and asset (customer) documentation.
  • Expert understanding of both explicit and implicit dependencies and able to explain these and build into recommendations.
  • Demonstrable ability to negotiate appropriate close-out terms with all key stakeholders.
