Midland Basin Overview
ConocoPhillips holds approximately 376,000 total net acres in the Midland Basin, which includes approximately 251,000 unconventional net acres located in the heart of West Texas. The company operates over 3,100 wells across Midland, Upton, Andrews, Martin, and Glasscock counties.

In 2022, the company operated five drilling rigs and brought 111 operated wells online. Net production in 2022 averaged 140 MBOED.

Description
If you are selected as the Facilities Engineer, you will be a member of the Midland Basin Facilities Group and will be based in ConocoPhillips' offices in Midland, Texas. Our team is accountable for facility designs, pipeline & gathering, and facility support for base business. As a Facilities Engineer, you will frame and execute ideas, opportunities, problems, and regulatory issues for Exploration, Development and Operations.

You may be eligible for the voluntary hybrid office work (HOW) program that is designed to provide employees with flexibility while maintaining the advantages of in-person engagement.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Align with other subject areas, Production Operations, Environmental, Regulatory, HSE, Projects, Right of Way, Procurement, Drafting, and Maintenance to develop and execute facility infrastructure plans in a changing environment
  • Provide solutions and optimization support to operations to resolve day-to-day operational issues
  • Provide normal, shutdown, and emergency operations support
  • Develop/modify Operating/Maintenance procedures and assist with understanding / comprehension of material to provide safety and optimized performance
  • Act as key interface to ensure regulatory and HSE compliance
  • Provide leadership and strong advocacy for process and personal safety
  • Support Project Teams and Operations in the commissioning and start-up of new/modified facilities
  • Aid in the development of the scope of the work, preliminary and detailed design, cost estimating, equipment selection, procurement, and construction cost control
  • Develop projects that improve the safety and Operability of the facility
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure key interfaces / tie-ins are accurately implemented to maintain and improve overall production
  • Support the management of the mechanical integrity programs working with the Asset Integrity group
  • Support maintenance activities in the specification of replacement/new equipment
  • Own the monitoring and reporting of progress for facility projects
  • Provide creative project options to meet critical time or capital requirements
  • Track and reconcile actual project costs with forecasts
  • Provide direct and impartial feedback to ensure corporate, BU, or industry code compliance
  • Lead efforts to ensure modifications, designs, and construction standards for equipment are fully understood and efficiently run through the corporate management of change (MOC) process
  • Lead MOC process for all activities that are directly supported including coordination with all support functions, submission of MOC, updating appropriate documents and completion of Pre-Start Up Safety Reviews (PSSR)
  • Lead and/or participate in Risk Assessments, PHA, and Incident Investigations/Learning Teams

Basic/Required:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, other related engineering field, or foreign equivalent
  • 3+ years of engineering experience
  • Intermediate experience of key industry codes & standards

Preferred:
  • 5+ years of experience in oil and gas production
  • 3+ years of experience in technical areas related to Facilities, Pipeline, Compression
  • 1+ years of experience in the Operating and/ or Maintenance Departments
  • 1+ years of field experience in Construction related activities
  • 1+ years of directing Contractors
  • Advanced knowledge of Technical Standards (API, ASME, etc.)
  • Advanced understanding of Process Safety Management requirements
  • Ability to specify appropriate equipment and material as well as evaluate alternatives
  • Ability to question the status quo and develop profitable and fit for purpose alternatives
  • Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals
