Description

An opportunity has arisen to recruit an Intraday Gas & Power Trader, to join an expanding 24/7 trading team. The individual will be responsible for executing trading strategies, utilising expertise in wholesale energy and balancing mechanism markets, optimising thermal generation plant to maximise gross margin, and offer support to the wider business functions when required.

A development opportunity exists for high performing individuals within the intraday team to rotate onto day-ahead and forward trading roles within the business, broadening the exposure of the individuals. Analytical rotation roles and projects are also available to individuals within the intraday team with the required technical skill-set.

The role will be based at the London Office, where Trading, Risk, Policy, Investment and Corporate Finance functions are based.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Trading Manager (GB), the key responsibilities and duties will include:-

  • Trading intraday gas and power markets to balance and reduce the business' exposure to imbalance
  • Working as part of a 24/7 operations team on a full shift rotation basis, utilising self-starter capability while also working efficiently within a team environment
  • Devising, developing and implementing short-term trading strategies, using intraday/day-ahead and Balancing Mechanism markets to optimise generation and maximise overall plant revenue
  • Dispatching our portfolio to capture gross margin from optimal generation/trading decisions, operating within credit guidelines and risk limits
  • Managing the business' contracted positions to avoid exposure to volatile and punitive imbalance charges
  • Coordinating and planning short-term outages to minimise commercial impact and manage the process of units returning to service
  • Ensuring all power market license conditions are upheld through good communications with the relevant network operator(s) and implementation of network codes
  • Adhering to the business's Trading Guidelines and Delegation of Authority processes
  • Assisting with requests from stakeholders across the group when required, helping to promote the team and support the successful growth of the business
  • Delivering against annual team/individual targets & ensure our performance is tracked using agreed key performance metrics

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Background
  • Experience of working in a Irish or GB energy trading and/or operations discipline
  • Industry experience as an energy market analyst
  • Knowledge of European gas, power and emissions trading
  • Knowledge of National Grid Electricity System Operator services, codes, operations and forums
  • Knowledge of Transmission Constraint Licence Condition
  • Knowledge of Uniform Network Code and REMIT
  • IT skills - Python, SQL, VBA
  • Self-starter with the ability to rapidly translate complex analysis/system data
