Mechanical Design engineers will develop design specifications, create and mature design concepts, provide procurement support, and generate other drawings and design documentation as required.
Mechanical Analysis Engineers will perform analyses on parts and components which may include stress, fracture, thermal and dynamic loads, and vibration.
The Engineer will operate in a matrixed engineering team to ensure high quality deliverables in accordance with customer requirements, business procedures and regulatory agency guidelines

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Requires interface with business project managers, technical project engineers and other business functions and partners.
- Develop new products & design modifications to improve existing products
- Understand the fabrication processes for component and assemblies, the post fabrication transportation and handling and the customer application requirements for fuel products and services
- Prepare drawings and specifications for new and existing fuel designs
- Provide well written, well organized documented engineering analyses to assure design adequacy
- Perform design reviews and production readiness reviews
- Address emergent customer and manufacturing issues
- Work closely with sourcing and manufacturing to support cost reduction activities
- Design test procedures and perform testing to address component and assembly adequacy
- Develop procedures and work to improve engineering productivity
- Apply engineering fundamentals and 1st order engineering principles to establish and/or confirm expected performance.
- Engage customers to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks.
- Work with the technical leader to establish an effective work plan, including time estimates, schedule estimates, requirements and work processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering field

- The required work location for this role is at the GE Hitachi Nuclear Headquarters Wilmington, NC (relocation assistance provided)

Desired Characteristics
- Nuclear Industry knowledge / experience
- Demonstrated problem solving ability and ability to perform complex engineering analyses resulting in thorough and complete documentation
- BWR/PWR fuel technology or reactor experience
- Strong communication skills and capable of articulating specific technical topics or assignments
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, vibration analysis, heat transfer, Finite Element Analysis, statistics and drafting practices (including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and CAD)
- Ability to work effectively within a highly collaborative environment
- A self-starter willing to take initiative
