Overview:

We have an excellent opportunity for a college or graduate school student for a paid summer internship. The summer internship is typically 12 weeks in length beginning on or before June 2, 2025 through mid-August (depending on your schedule). The summer internship offers exposure to a variety of engineering experiences while working on real-world projects.

In this role you will:

  1. Working closely with team members on specific projects with the potential to be involved in a wide range of project-related work including but not limited to:
  2. Assisting engineers with building energy modeling, commissioning, retro commissioning and special engineering projects.
  3. Working with engineers to provide energy efficiency and sustainable design services to the commercial building sector by identifying opportunities for energy savings and demand reduction.
  4. Assisting with building energy and daylight simulations using tools such as DesignBuilder, eQuest, Honeybee, etc.
  5. Evaluating energy conservation measures (ECMs) and assist in the implementation of ECMs - will include HVAC equipment such as pumps, fans, boilers, chillers, solar electric, the control and integration of HVAC equipment, as well as lighting and the building envelope.
  6. Reviewing building project MEP drawings and related documents to become familiar with building energy systems and layouts.
  7. Assisting with engineering report writing and creation of energy savings calculations/evaluations.


You will need to have:

  • Highly motivated to learn about green buildings and be passionate about reducing building energy consumption.
  • Strong technical writing skills, computer skills (Microsoft Office) and communication skills are necessary.
  • Relevant course work pertaining to improving energy performance, to include building heating and cooling (HVAC) systems.
  • Prior completion of a Thermodynamics course is required
  • Applicants must be pursuing an engineering degree in Architectural Engineering or a degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program and must be entering junior year or higher of undergraduate degree or currently enrolled in grad school or currently enrolled in a graduate program.
  • Knowledge of Revit software and Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite

Salary Information:

The pay range listed aligns to the geography of the office for which this position is posted. Actual compensation will be based upon work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Individuals in this role working more than 24 hours a week on a regular basis are eligible to participate in HGA's robust benefit programs which include an annual bonus and success sharing bonus program, 401(k) guaranteed contribution, paid parental leave, medical, dental and life insurance plans as well as PTO and short- and long-term disability programs. Hourly Pay: $22.00/hr.
