GENERAL SUMMARY
The Nisqually Generations Healing Center (NGHC) Human Resources Generalist performs professional human resource services; provides information and advice to all NGHC Directors, Managers, and all other employees on human resources policies, procedures, and services. The NGHC HR Generalist is assigned to multiple areas of human resource administration, including but not limited to, employment and recruitment of health professionals, employee relations, benefits administration, human resources information management, performance management, and learning development and with an emphasis in training.
This position ensures the confidentiality, security, and accuracy of records, and promotes positive employee, customer, and community relations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required and outstanding customer service to fellow employees, customers, vendors, etc. is expected. Regular attendance is required, and on occasion, later hours or weekend time may be required with project deadlines and a neat well-groomed professional appearance is always essential.

- Consult with directors, managers, and supervisors to address employee relations concerns; provide guidance about HR best practices, the use of performance management tools, corrective action plans, and disciplinary actions; assist with review of proposed actions.
- Assist with investigating employee grievances and participate in their resolution.
- Advise, interpret, and provide administrative direction and strategic guidance to directors, managers, supervisors, and employees on NGHC policy and procedures involving employment, employer and employee relations, salary administration, training, benefits and organizational development.
- Assist with employee benefits programs including renewals, coordinate with Financial Services staff, outside vendors, and third-party administrators for self-funded programs.
- Maintain and update enrollment in employee benefits including Medical/Dental insurance, Life insurance, Worker's Compensation, Retirement (401K), and other benefits offered to employees; ensure records accurately reflect enrollments, terminations, and changes in coverage.
- Carry out work goals, priorities and deadlines.
- Provide assistance to employees; determine and explain eligibility, enrollment process and provide information about various plans.
- Review and approve or deny requests for Family Medical Leave; provide notice to employees and supervisors and monitor leave used.
- Coordinate unemployment insurance filings, respond to inquiries, and participate in hearings when required.
- Prepare and edit correspondence and forms including benefit eligibility announcements and applicant referral notices.
- Consult with hiring supervisors regarding vacancies in assigned areas; review job descriptions, prepare position announcements, advertisements, and information materials for recruitment.
- Review and screen applications for minimum qualifications and maintain accurate records with required applicant data such as education, experience, training, job skills, and salary requirements.
- Coordinate required pre-employment testing and inform hiring authority of the results.
- Assist hiring supervisors with making employment offers; prepare appointment letters and complete new hire paperwork.
- Assist directors, managers, and supervisors with compliance with policies and procedures by providing guidance and policy clarification on human resources related actions for position establishment, fair and consistent hiring practices, salary determination, promotions, demotions, transfers, terminations, resignations, retirements, and layoffs.
- Perform Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in related field and four years of increasingly responsible Human Resources experience OR
- Eight years of increasingly responsible human resources experience.
- Must have HR generalist experience that includes specialized experience, training or education in classification, compensation, benefits, and training/organizational development.
- Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets the minimum requirements established by Nisqually Indian Tribes vehicle insurance provider.
- Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
- Knowledge of the Nisqually Indian Tribe's history, customs, traditions, and ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
- Experience working with Federally Recognized Tribes.
