We are seeking an Accounting Director to join our team!

The Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) Accounting Director will serve as an internal GGRF accounting expert and resource leading the set up and design of accounting systems for the EPA National Clean Investment Fund (NCIF) and Clean Communities Investment Accelerator (CCIA) funding awarded to Self-Help. The Director will produce financial statements for Self-Help Climate Capital and manage all program related accounting, including the hiring and supervision of additional staff as necessary.

The ideal candidate would have experience with Federal Government Grant Accounting and an ability and willingness to understand complex Federal Government rules and collaborate effectively with internal and external partners.

WHAT You'll DO:
  • Build and maintain familiarity with GGRF rules and regulations, including expert understanding of compliance and reporting requirements related to accounting and budgeting
  • Support the creation and implementation of policies and procedures that ensure accurate GGRF program accounting and financial reporting
  • Support the design of accounting systems that can effectively capture and report on GGRF budget categories
  • Continually evaluate and identify areas for improvement and optimization of accounting systems, procedures, policies and supporting processes
  • Produce monthly financial statements and budget to actual reports related to Self-Help's GGRF award(s)
  • Design effective internal workflows to ensure accurate financial reporting, including working cross functionally with other teams and departments
  • Ensure all general ledger accounts are reconciled including working with other accounting and finance staff to ensure all general ledger accounts are reconciled timely.
  • Utilize and apply knowledge of the fundamental doctrines, theories, principles, and terminology of accountancy, including an understanding of how transactions made in other departments affect accounting records.
  • Ensure all bank statements are reconciled and provide reporting on cash balances as necessary
  • Ensure secondary market loan portfolio is reconciled with 3rd party servicers including but not limited to Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac.
  • Create and post journal entries as necessary. Evaluate alternative means of treating transactions
  • Serve as an internal resource for accounting related questions. This role will coordinate often with teams including but not limited to Development, Policy, and Impact, Climate Capital, the Data Intelligence Group, and legal and compliance
  • Ensure internal systems balance to general ledger including utilizing internal data warehouses
  • Design effective internal workflows to ensure accurate financial reporting, including working cross functionally with other teams and departments
  • Work cross functionally with other GGRF staff and treasury team to draw Federal Government grant funds
  • Prepare schedules for external and internal auditors.
  • Prepare Self-Help Climate Capital financial statements that are consolidated into Self-Help Ventures Fund
  • Correspond with the auditors to provide any information needed to ensure audits and compliance documents are filed in a timely manner.
  • Work with other teams and outside vendors to gather clarity or documentation for responding to auditors.
  • May hire and supervise additional staff as necessary
  • Respond to information/reporting requests from both internal and external sources, when needed.
  • Actively participate in interdepartmental meetings and assessing the impact accounting or procedural changes will have on the team.
  • Perform other duties as may be deemed necessary.

WHAT You'll NEED:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting OR equivalent related experience.
  • 5 years of experience in accounting experience, preferably in financial institution or experience with Federal Government grants including single audits and 2 CFR 200
  • Experience with MAS 100, SAP Concur, and Defacto Reporting Software Preferred
  • CPA, MAC, or MBA preferred

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and aptitude to quickly learn new software applications.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work productively on a team.
  • Good organization skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to work beyond normal work hours, as needed.
