General Statement

Under the general supervision of the Chief Wastewater Plant Operator, the Wastewater Plant Operator will be responsible for the daily safe operation of the City's 4.5 MGD Wastewater Treatment Plant, which utilizes an activated sludge treatment process in accordance with all local, state, and federal rules and regulations. The Wastewater Plant operates 24 hours a day, 356 days a year. This position is classified as essential personnel which may include returning to public works facilities or other city facilities during disasters and emergencies as directed by the Director of Water Utilities; and must live within 45 minutes of normal travel time to Kyle.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains various plan operations and maintenance records.

  • Maintains records of samples, results, and field-testing parameters in accordance with predefined standards.

  • Perform routine process control testing on treatment process.

  • Read various laboratory equipment displays and correctly record results on log forms.

  • Must provide organizational support by following all policies and procedures.

  • Must be present on site when scheduled and on time; arrives at meetings and appointments on time.

  • Observes and follows safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.

  • Must be able to multi-task to meet all productive standards and complete assignments and work in a timely manner.

  • Utilize Microsoft Products (Word, Excel, Outlook) for reporting and communication.

  • Must live within forty-five (45) minutes of normal travel time to Kyle, Texas. Will be required to participatein the on-call schedule.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Experience, and/or Certifications Required

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, competent training, and certification from a technical or vocational school; and

  • Minimum of two (2)years of experience inactivated sludge treatment plant operations.

  • An Associate's Degree in Environmental or Life Science field preferred.

  • Class "C" Wastewater Treatment license issued by TCEQ, must have the ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire date; Class "B" highly preferred but not required.

  • Or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience which evidences a comprehensive knowledge of required job duties and expectations.

  • Valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record and be eligible for coverage under the City's vehicle insurance provider.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of TCEQ rules governing wastewater collection and treatment.

  • Experience with compliance sampling methodologies, sample processing, sample custody, and field work related to environmental assessments.

  • Knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment processes utilized in chemical and biological laboratory analysis. Knowledge of basic chemistry and principles, practices, protocols and methods for wastewater testing and analysis. Knowledge of sampling techniques and proper and environmentally safe methods for transfer and analysis of chemical and biological samples. Knowledge of local, state, and federal water quality criteria, water pollution regulations, and occupational safety requirements.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft programs including Office 365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Publisher.

  • Ability to analyze problems and plan solutions.

  • Abilitytointerpret laboratory reports, and written information/instructions.
