Assistant Wellsite Leader

I. General

Assists the Wellsite Leader in the supervision of well programs to a level determined by the Wellsite Leader. Builds on training and on-the-job exposure while developing skills related to ne a wellsite Leader.

II. Relationship

  • Reports to the Wellsite Leader.
  • May be required to mentor wellsite engineers
  • Interacts with client wellsite representative, drilling contractor supervisors and service company representatives.

III. Responsibilities

QHSE
  • The WSL shall start showing clear leadership in all aspects of health, safety and environmental (HSE) protection, ensuring that safe working practices are being utilized.
  • The ultimate objective of the AWSL is to conduct the well operations safely, in accordance with the approved well operations program and in compliance with the applicable Policies/Standards/ Procedures and the regulatory requirements, within the allocated time/cost with optimal use of resources.
  • Comply to roles and responsibilities of the WSL at the rig site are further detailed within the Standing Orders for Wellsite Leaders as assigned by WSL.

Planning and coordination
  • Organizes and leads pre-job safety and operations meetings that are related to well operations.
  • Leads daily planning meetings and discusses operations with tool pusher, segment and third party supervisors.
  • Attends daily planning call with supervisors from various parties as applicable.
  • Maintains look ahead planner to anticipate resource requirements to meet well demands and provide optimum efficiency of services including contingency plans.
  • Responsible for checking that equipment and services comply with the contract.
  • Manages proper inventory of tangibles such as, but not limited to cement, barite, bits, as well as rental equipment.
  • Responsible for checking equipment on site to ensure readiness. (QA/QC)
  • Ensures Material Requests are issued in a timely manner to avoid disruption of operation.

Operations
  • Ensures that the operations are conducted to prevent the risk of well control, stuck pipe and any other drilling hazards.
  • Issues Standing Instructions for Drillers for each tour, routed through toolpusher / rig manager.
  • Comply to required SOPs ad complete checklists as required
  • Prepares detailed procedures for specific critical operations (running casing, cementing, etc.)
  • Performs wellsite calculations e.g. cement jobs
  • Ensures well control event preparedness (SCR's, Leak off Tests, BOP Tests, kick sheets, shut in procedure, etc.).
  • Ensures stuck pipe event preparedness (Drillers' first actions, maximum allowable over pull, fishing equipment, etc)
  • Attends the rig floor to supervise critical activities such as (but not limited to) landing, cementing, and testing casing; flow checks, and while pulling the first ten stands while tripping etc
  • Take active part in performance discussions to improve ft/day and reduce flat time operation.
  • Implements contingency plans at the rig site.
  • Prepares Standard Equipment Lists (if applicable) in a timely manner for each phase of the well.
  • Prepares daily cost estimates based on goods consumed and services provided.

Communications
  • Prepares and communicates accurate daily morning with the contribution of the appropriate service companies for approval of WSL and distribution.
  • Prepares other reports for approval by the WSL e.g. casing, cementing etc as required
  • Prepares daily cost estimate for approval by the WSL (if applicable)
  • Discusses Material Requests with Logistic Coordinator daily
  • Documents within 24 hours any failure or incident report
  • Participates in program changes with project team being proactive in improvement suggestions
  • Initiate Management of Change (MOC) for approval by the WSL where required
  • Ensures adequate handover to his relief.

Training & development
  • Mentors junior staff at the wellsite
  • Assesses readiness of rig crew for well control events by conducting regular drills
  • Other drills e.g. emergency response as required

IV. Competencies and Behavior

The Assistant Wellsite Leader should have experiences relevant to the nature of the project and typically at least 5 years Oilfield Drilling seniority in appropriate positions.
