The Specialty Senior Underwriter maintains renewal of assigned portfolio, profitably underwrites, and grows specialty business. The role analyzes trends and scenario plans from which portfolio strategies can be developed and implemented. The role maintains underwriting discipline by complying with underwriting authority, guidelines, and directives and drives consistent underwriting best practices and guidelines across global products.
Responsibilities
Monitors underwriting strategic objectives, including adherence to underwriting and pricing guardrails, and implements and manages a rigorous and ongoing portfolio management process. Negotiates the annual pricing, terms and conditions of renewal business. Maintains renewal of assigned portfolio, profitably underwrites, and grows casualty business achieving annual production budget. Assures compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements and ensures the integrity of underwriting discipline by identifying underwriting issues. Makes recommendations to senior vice president regarding market strategy, product development and departmental efficiencies. Reviews and analyzes individual new business accounts with respect to class, payroll, and related policy issuance details to insure they match actual exposure. Establishes relationships with key trading partners and drive submission activity across assigned agents & brokers in our desired industry segments. Works with brokers and clients to understand and respond to evolving client needs driven by international market expansion and acquisition or through changes in geographic footprint and program structure. Analyzes trends and scenario plans from which portfolio strategies can be developed and implemented and gathers pertinent competitive information to assist in product development recommendations. Drives consistent underwriting best practices and guidelines across global products and maintains underwriting discipline by complying with underwriting authority, guidelines, and directives. Reviews and makes recommendations to improve quality checklists, streamlines workflows, and updates property underwriting guidelines as needed to reflect additional requirements and developments. Gathers critical local intelligence that will aid in the development of product, service, and appetite improvements.
Qualifications
2-5 years of Specialty Underwriting experience. Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance, Risk Management and/or commensurate work experience.
