Job Details

The technical director will perform all duties of a nuclear medicine tech position with additional responsibilities including, but not limited to: acting as a resource to all nuclear medicine techs, facilitating new employee/student training and serving as the lab technical director and maintaining accreditation through IAC.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Administers radiopharmaceutical or radiation intravenously to detect or treat diseases, using radioisotope equipment, under direction of a cardiologist.
  • Detects and maps radiopharmaceuticals in patients' bodies, using a camera to produce photographic or computer images.
  • Produces a computer-generated or film image for interpretation of a physician.
  • Gathers information on patient's illnesses and medical history to guide the choice of diagnostic procedures for therapy.
  • Preparation of pharmacological stress agents, dose calculation and administration
  • Explains test procedures and safety precautions to patients and provides them with assistance during test procedures.
  • Calculates, measures, and records radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used, and disposed, using computer and following physician's prescription.
  • Processes cardiac function studies and records results of procedures.
  • Assists in preparing the final report for each test performed.
  • Performs quality control checks on laboratory equipment or cameras.
  • Maintains and calibrates radioisotope and laboratory equipment.
  • Prepares stock radiopharmaceuticals, adhering to safety standards that minimize radiation exposure to staff and patients.
  • Disposes of radioactive materials and stores radiopharmaceuticals, following radiation safety procedures.
  • Serves as Technical Director of the nuclear medicine lab
  • Maintains nuclear lab accreditation through IAC
    Participates in quality improvement / quality assurance projects
    Assures critical findings/results are reported per policy
  • Performs other duties assigned by CHPP's executive leadership, the Chair of the Department of Cardiology and the AVP of the Cardiovascular Service Line
  • Reports to the Nuclear Lab Medical Director, CHPP's executive leadership, the Chair of the Department of Cardiology and the AVP of the Cardiovascular Service for clinical quality and accreditation.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
  • Able to read/interpret EKG tracings
  • Able to administer CPR when warranted
  • Able to enter data electronically accurately and quickly
  • Good communication skills with patients, physicians, nurses and fellow staff members
  • Effectively reinforces good behavior and discourages negativity
  • Adheres to all I.C.A.R.E. standards as set by the health system

EDUCATION

Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine program

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS

Must have an active NMTCB or ARRT(N) license

ACLS Certification

EXPERIENCE:

At least two years in either an outpatient or hospital setting

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Studies are performed in a mobile nuclear exam at various practices
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to travel to different locations as needed
  • Must be able to push/pull heavy medical equipment

Salary Range

USD $125,000.00 - USD $144,000.00 /Yr.

This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
