NVE is seeking an HVAC Mechanic in support of an operations and maintenance (O&M) contract for a federal agency in Rockville, MD. The HVAC Mechanic shall have three (3) years of journeyman level experience obtained in a trade or occupation in maintenance, repair and operation of buildings such as: air conditioning equipment mechanic, refrigeration equipment mechanic, Operating Engineer, HVAC control systems mechanic, etc. Candidate must have a journeyman license and be able to perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot HVAC equipment. Shift is 6:00 am to 2:00 pm. You will be required to pass a federal government background investigation prior to start of the work.

Job Requirements/Duties:
- Understand written and oral instructions to perform the required work
- Perform basic building maintenance (preventive, predictive) of a government commercial office building
- Must be knowledgeable and skilled in HVAC installs, services and repairs. Work may include, but is not limited to:
- Connect motors, compressor, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source
- Installs air and water filters in completed installation
- Injects small amount of refrigerant into compressor to test systems and add Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure
- Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to insure proper operation, test joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges or soap- and-water solution, wraps pipe in insulation batting and secures them in place with cement or wire bands
- Replace defective breaker controls, thermostat, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units, may install, repair and service air conditioners
- Responsible for maintaining, responding to service requests, as needed, under guidance of the PM, Deputy PM or Chief Engineer.
- Use a variety of power and hand tools to perform job functions
- Perform emergency repairs and available for after hour and weekend repairs
- Work effectively with the customer, building tenants and other team members
- Ability to troubleshoot, complete work order assigned in a timely matter
- Ability to read Architectural and Manufacturing blueprints.
- Capable with basic office equipment to include cell phone, tablet, telephone, fax and copy scanner.
Qualifications for the position include:
- High School or Equivalent (at a minimum)
- Journeyman HVAC License (must be maintained for continued employment)
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal CFC License, required
- OSHA 30 desired
Background Investigation/Clearance:
- An existing Building Background Investigation (i.e. HSPD-12) for the facility or other federal agency desirable.
- Must be a US Citizen (or a permanent resident for at least 5 years)
- Must be in good financial standing and not be behind in taxes
