Overview

SouthWest Water Company is seeking a Water Systems Operator II to support the Productions team. This role performs intermediate-level Operations Functions and entry-level Planning Functions, requiring guidance from more experienced team members. The Operator will suggest approaches for Operations tasks and seek advice for Planning tasks. They may also lead and train junior operators and assist with administrative support for senior team members.

What You'll Do

This position will be willing and able to perform the following duties and others as assigned:

  • Monitor SCADA system to control wells, pumps, valves, and reservoir levels. Respond to alarms, communicate with maintenance and water quality teams. Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and water wholesalers. Analyze data trends to improve system operations.
  • Prepare and review operations reports (water production, treatment, costs, fleet management, safety). Estimate demand and production mix for budgeting and forecasting.
  • Operate and monitor treatment facilities to ensure regulatory compliance and optimized productivity.
  • Calculate contaminant blend scenarios to meet regulations and ensure operational stability.
  • Perform and set chemical dosing to achieve required water quality outcomes.
  • Maintain records and ensure adequate chemical supply for water treatment needs.
  • Monitor and calibrate chlorine, ammonia, and nitrate analyzers, provide technical support.
  • Review lab test results and adjust operations to comply with drinking water regulations.
  • Oversee vehicle and equipment maintenance, registration, insurance, and compliance paperwork. Maintain fleet databases.

What You'll Bring

Experience
  • 5 years working in industrial, manufacturing, or utility environment, analyzing data and preparing reports using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, purchasing industrial or fleet equipment (fleet preferred), and/or operating or coordinating the operation of mechanical equipment to produce a product or maintain a system (water system preferred).
  • 2 years operating a water distribution system required.

Education, Licenses, and Certifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business, or related field desired.
  • DDW Distribution Operator 3 and DDW Treatment Operator 2.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Strong analytical skills, ability to use thinking and reasoning to effectively identify and solve water quality problems.
• Moderate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 suite including Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Water systems and mechanical equipment knowledge.

Work Environment and Conditions
  • May work outside and may be subjected to adverse working conditions and inclement weather.

Physical Demands
  • May be required to sit for long periods of time, may work long and irregular hours under demanding conditions, must be able to operate a Company passenger vehicle or pickup truck, must have adequate vision and hearing that is required to communicate with personnel in person or by telephone and may require moderate lifting and carrying up 25 pounds.
