Job Summary:
Inspects various phases of waterworks construction projects to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and agreements of work; and performs other related duties as required.

Examples of Duties:

(The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position).
  • Inspects various phases of waterworks projects involving the construction and installation of pipelines and reservoirs, buildings, intakes, wells, and sources;
  • Meets with contractors, engineers and other concerning methods, procedures, and materials to be used in various phases of construction;
  • Interprets plans and specifications and may, with approval from supervisor allow minor deviations on plans;
  • Checks line and grade in the construction of concrete drains, laying of sewer pipes, or in the laying of pavement materials;
  • Checks forms for workmanship, alignment, and strength;
  • Checks clearing and grubbing of rights of way;
  • Checks the pouring of concrete or asphalt; inspects the erection of false work, forms of the timbering and bracing of trenches;
  • Inspects street trenching and backfills;
  • Keeps records of labor, materials, and prepares reports as required;
  • Maintains daily log of contractor's work progress, test results and notes on deviations; maintains records and files;
  • Checks to see that safety practices are observed;
  • Follows up on restoration of facilities, site and adjacent and vehicle assigned; and
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Training and Experience:

A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school; and
  • two and one half (2 ½) years of inspectional or investigative work experience involving the enforcement of laws, ordinances and/or rules and regulations; and
  • one (1) year of work experience related to pipeline installation, or other related waterworks construction or installation.

License Requirement:

At the time of appointment, the candidate selected for hire will need to possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
