What We're Looking For: The DATCP's Division of Trade and Consumer Protection is recruiting for a Weights and Measures Petroleum Inspector (Weights & Measures Petroleum System Specialist - Entry) to fill an employment opportunity with the Bureau of Weights and Measures.

This is a field-based position and routine state-wide travel is required. The selected applicants can select a headquarter in one of the following counties :

Dunn, Polk & St. Croix

Qualifying candidates are not required to live in a county headquarter location. However, reimbursement for commuting to or from the employee's assigned headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.). Routine travel within an assigned territory and throughout the state for assigned work and emergency response is required.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for inspection, enforcement, compliance, education and investigation work for the Weights and Measures/Petroleum Inspection program. This position provides highly technical field education, training, and consultation to regulated businesses and the general public using knowledge of petroleum products, tank systems, weights and measures requirements and Division protocols.

Salary Information

The classification for this position is Weights & Measures Petroleum System Specialist - Entry which is in schedule-range 05-63 with starting pay between $28.00 - $30.00 per hour based on qualifications. This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

DATCP does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the selected applicant being able to provide documentation of eligibility to work in the United States.

A criminal background check will be performed on the selected applicant prior to an offer of employment.

A valid driver's license and the eligibility to drive a State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle* is required.

*In order to be authorized to drive a State vehicle the candidate must meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy, which are:

• Must have a valid driver's license;
• Must have a minimum of two years of licensed driving experience;
• Must be 18 years of age.

Additionally, your driving record MUST NOT reflect any of the following conditions:

• Three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two years;
• Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within the past 12 months;
• Suspension or revocation of driver's license.

Ability to obtain and maintain Storage Tank Inspector Certification and NCWM Weights and Measures Inspector Certification is required.

The ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, often on wet or uneven surfaces, is required.

Ability to lift up to 35 lbs routinely; up to 50 lbs occasionally.

Working outdoors is required 12 months of the year. Conditions frequently are dusty, dirty, and may be hazardous.

Travel of up to 80% of this position's work duties is required.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following:

• Training and/or experience related to technical science, math, process control, business, engineering field work or similar
• Experience working independently at a worksite and/or in a remote field position (i.e., performing repairs and/or installation at various work sites, managing and/or coordinating own workload assignments, self-scheduling for assigned customer contacts, etc.)
• Experience working with Microsoft Access and Excel or similar programs

In addition to the minimum qualifications above , highly qualified candidates will have one or more of the following:

• Experience working in a regulatory field (weights and measures, petroleum or other chemical or liquid products, storage tank systems, commercial measuring devices, packaged commodity and pricing requirements, etc.)
• Experience interpreting technical data, complex codes, blueprints and/or standards and the ability to explain them to a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
• Experience conducting inspections (ensuring compliance of systems and businesses via review of records, obtaining compliance through education or higher enforcement actions, etc.)
