About the Opportunity

A market-leading, independently owned town planning consultancy with offices across the UK and Ireland is seeking an Associate Planning Consultant to join its Edinburgh office. This role offers a clear pathway to Director level, providing a rare opportunity to step into a leadership position and drive the future growth of the Scottish operations.

About the Role

This position is ideal for a commercially minded planner with experience leading major and complex projects, particularly in the energy, retail, and leisure sectors. A strong understanding of the Scottish planning system is essential. The successful candidate will work closely with the current Director to ensure a seamless leadership transition.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Managing large-scale and complex planning projects.
  • Leading and developing a team, mentoring junior planners, and fostering a strong company culture.
  • Driving business development by securing new clients and expanding the project portfolio.
  • Navigating the Scottish planning system, ensuring compliance and successful applications.
  • Providing strategic advice and direction from project conception through to planning approval.
  • Engaging with key stakeholders, including clients, local authorities, and external consultants.
  • Contributing to the strategic growth of the Edinburgh office and wider UK operations.

About You

The ideal candidate will be a commercially driven planner with a strong private sector consultancy background. You should have:
  • An RTPI-accredited degree/postgraduate qualification in Town Planning.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in a senior planning role.
  • A proven track record of managing complex projects, particularly in energy, retail, and leisure.
  • Experience with Scottish planning systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage major projects and lead teams.
  • Ambition to step into a Director role with a long-term commitment to the company.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a car.
