Role Summary:
The QC Inspector is responsible for conducting daily inspections of subcontractor work related to main and service installations. This includes verifying compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and company procedures to ensure all work meets the required specifications.

Compensation: The compensation for this role starts at $30/hr
Key Responsibilities:
  • Daily Inspections: Inspect subcontractor work for main and service installations, maintenance, and facility abandonment; deactivation/activation of abandoned and new distribution facilities; utility clearance and unmarked structure identification; coating and corrosion prevention for steel mains; internal/external pipeline inspections; pipeline purging and pressure testing; installation/replacement of isolation couplings, anodes, and test stations; plastic/non-plastic pipe joining (mechanical and electro fusion); gas stopping equipment; trenching, backfilling, excavation methods, and paving restoration; meter build-ups and AMI procedures.
  • Post-Inspection and Documentation: Conduct post-inspection reviews; document QC status using SharePoint forms, noting deficiencies, and ensuring prompt corrections; submit QAQC reports within 24 hours and notify the client of serious violations; ensure compliance with SJI Construction, O&M Manuals, SIG O&M, Safety Manuals, and Federal regulations (PHMSA, OSHA); monitor maintenance and new business construction for mains and services; enforce Stop Work Authorization if pipeline integrity is at risk; ensure site safety compliance per MUTCD and client procedures; verify installations align with SJI manuals.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Serve as the primary point of contact for field-related issues and documentation; conduct meetings with SJI management to discuss updates and approvals; report OSHA inspections, regulatory inquiries, property damage, and gas leaks immediately; verify subcontractor documentation (work orders, pre-job checklists, NJ One-Call Tickets); perform Industrial Training Services (ITS) evaluations for South Jersey Gas; execute other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of the SJI Construction Manual and industry regulations (OSHA, PHMSA, MUTCD).
  • Knowledge of natural gas pipeline/facility operations and compliance with standards and procedural codes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Teams, Outlook, Excel) and internal systems (UKG, Unanet).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to meet project deadlines.
Education and Experience:
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of construction experience related to field inspections and technical specifications (standards, procedures, design, etc.), OR minimum 2 years of experience in the installation of natural gas mains, services, and field projects.
  • Certifications: Hold OQ certification through ITS for SJI-identified tasks.
  • Experience with SharePoint, QAQC reporting, and compliance documentation.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Must carry third-party liability insurance with a minimum coverage of $100K/$300K/$50K, plus collision and comprehensive coverage with deductibles not exceeding $1,000.
Physical Demands:
  • Duties may be performed in outdoor environments with exposure to changing weather conditions.
  • Moderate physical activity required, including somewhat strenuous daily tasks.
  • May involve walking up to 5 miles daily and lifting up to 30 pounds on occasion.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and climb up/down ladders.
  • Frequent communication with coworkers, requiring the ability to exchange accurate information.
