Job Description - Machinery Operator (Cherry Picker)

Operations & Maintenance - Streetlighting
Reporting To: Supervisor / Electrical Engineer
Location: Yas Island
Job Purpose:

Operate elevated work platforms (Cherry Pickers) and other mechanical access equipment to support maintenance activities on streetlighting and elevated electrical infrastructure. Ensure safe lifting, positioning, and assistance during lamp replacement, fixture repairs, and cable terminations.
Key Responsibilities:

- Operate cherry picker trucks to assist electricians in reaching elevated poles and fixtures.
- Conduct daily inspection of machinery (oil, brakes, tires, hydraulics, safety restraints).
- Position and stabilize vehicle at designated work locations using outriggers.
- Ensure proper harness usage and compliance with fall protection procedures.
- Communicate with spotters or technicians during lifting operations.
- Report mechanical issues, fuel levels, or unusual equipment behavior.
- Maintain records of vehicle usage, fuel logs, and service checklists.
- Follow route maps for planned streetlight works and assist in night maintenance if needed.
- Comply with traffic management and temporary signage placement requirements.
Skills Required:

- Proficiency in operating hydraulic lifting platforms (cherry picker, boom lift).
- Awareness of safe working load (SWL), tilt sensors, and fall arrest equipment.
- Coordination with lighting technicians and safe positioning of bucket arm.
- Basic understanding of electrical safety while working near live fixtures.
- Map reading and route-following ability.
Qualifications:

- Valid UAE driving license for heavy vehicle with boom-lift certification.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in machinery operation (preferably in FM/streetlighting).
- IPAF (or equivalent) certification preferred.
Health & Safety:

- Use full body harness and PPE while operating equipment.
- Adhere to LOTO and traffic safety standards.
- Conduct toolbox talks before elevated work and log near misses or incidents.
Authority Matrix:

- Authorized to operate cherry picker and elevate personnel as per job cards.
- Not authorized to perform electrical tasks or operate outside assigned route.
