Position - Chargehand Mechanical Technician

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities

Technical & Maintenance Duties:

• Assemble, install, and maintain mechanical systems including pumps, compressors, turbines, valves, and diesel engines.
• Perform preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repairs.
• Operate hand and machine tools, precision instruments, and CNC/manual machines.
• Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Conduct precision alignment, levelling, and flange joint overhauls.
• Carry out testing, inspections, and performance checks.

Supervisory & Leadership:

• Supervise a team of mechanical technicians, ensuring efficient workflow and task completion.
• Cover for the Mechanical Foreman, including permit writing and daily coordination.
• Provide technical guidance and support to team members and trainees.
• Monitor equipment reliability and implement improvements.

Safety & Compliance:

• Adhere to Shell Assist & Assure and Wood's Shield safety systems.
• Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
• Report incidents and stop unsafe work when necessary.
• Maintain accurate records using SAP and support continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

Essential:

• Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent technical qualification.
• Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within oil and gas or heavy industry.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and fault diagnosis.
• Leadership experience in a supervisory or chargehand role.

Certifications:

• ECITB MJI10 / TMJI10 (Hand Torque Bolted Connections)
• Working at Height (Unit 7 - Management)
• Gas Testing (E-learning)

Desirable:

• SAP experience for maintenance tracking.
• Familiarity with changing technologies and continuous improvement practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
