The Gas Operator performs a wide variety of tasks in the field with construction and operations activities. This individual is responsible for all aspects of the Apprentice role. The individual will also be responsible for more advanced areas of installing new distribution mains and services such as equipment operation (excavator, directional drill, trencher, etc.), excavating and backfilling. Additionally, the individual will be responsible for meter sets for residential & commercial customers up to 2 psi as well as the applicable turn-on/turn-off of those meters, leak and odor investigations, high bill investigations as well as troubleshooting and testing meter set assemblies (MSA). The individual will also be able to complete the following monthly inspections:

High school diploma is required for this position. The individual will be expected to have a valid motor vehicle license.

Physical Demands:
Daily activity is fast paced, physically demanding, and with production goals. Duties involve heavy lifting and manual labor. The individual must be available for emergency call-outs and be able to work extended hours; job site reporting is common.
Majority of the workday is spent outdoors; therefore this individual is exposed to (and must have tolerance for) extremes of heat, cold, noise, and dust. Exposure to construction equipment and normal driving hazards is encountered regularly.
Safety Sensitive Job:
This is a safety sensitive job and as such is subject to random drug testing as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation (D.O.T.). Employment is contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical examination and completing DOT OQ courses.

- Valve operations and maintenance
- Leak Survey & Patrols
- Exposed Pipe
- Odorization
- Assist with MSA inspections, which includes relief valve inspections, under appropriate supervision.
Employee will:
- Follow directions and assist more senior employees on an as needed basis
- Must have at least 3 years of experience in underground facility construction or other applicable experience
- Maintain company vehicles, tools and equipment necessary for job functions
- Control job inventory
- Self-inspect company activities
- Maintain a working knowledge of company Operations and Maintenance Manuals and Construction Manuals

QUALIFICATIONS

COMPETENCIES
- Ability to clearly communicate complex ideas verbally and in writing is crucial for ease of understanding between customers, authorities, and fellow employees.
- An analytical ability to investigate electrical and mechanical indications and use them to arrive at solutions to complex problems facilitates job duties immensely.
- A motor vehicle operator with valid license is required, and the applicant must be bondable with no record of felony convictions.
- Experience with Microsoft office or similar computer programs is desirable.
- Maintain a General knowledge of pipeline safety regulations put forth by local, state and federal agencies.
- Maintain a working knowledge of companies Operations and Maintenance Manual and Construction Manuals.
