Wood is recruiting for an Offshore Vessel Operator - Adhoc (Casual /Temporary) to join its Operations team focusing on the oil and gas petrochemical industry. This opportunity is offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, working on an as needed, call-out basis.
The Role
Location: Offshore Newfoundland and Labrador
Site / Office based: Terra Nova FPSO
Hours of work: 12 hours per day
Rotation / work pattern: Call out, as needed
Required: Site-specific medical, drug and alcohol testing
Unionized position: Rates follow the Collective Bargaining Agreement
You will be working in confined spaces and/or at heights, as well as noisy conditions. Work may be indoors or outdoors, and at extreme temperatures.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Duties and Essential Functions
- This position, as required, will be responsible for all bridge watch and deck watch activities in accordance with Transport Canada regulations
- Ensure all crude oil offloading activities including degassing, monitoring and strainer cleaning of the metering package are performed safely
- Team member for helicopter landing operations including refueling
- Perform weekly checks on life saving and firefighting equipment to ensure equipment is maintained to regulatory standards
- Support personnel movements by FROG to/from supply boat
- Operate forklift or other lifting appliances
- Participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team as a coxswain for lifeboat
- Follow all company and site-specific safety rules. Working within the Company's Safety Program at all times. Maintaining behaviour-based safety essentials and adherence to the Life Saving Rules. Understand and respond accordingly to all safety alerts, warnings, hazards, etc.
- Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Able to adequately comprehend and communicate using the English Language
- Listen and communicate effectively and respectfully. Work as a part of a team, under the direction of a supervisor. Maintain motivation to work safely and productively
- Read and interpret instructions and documentation to plan work activities. Prioritizing tasks to meet the overall needs of the project. Expedite the flow of materials to certain areas when required
- Review production schedules and related information. Communicate with department supervisors to determine material requirements to identify overdue materials and to track material needs
- Requisitions material and establishes sequential delivery dates to departments, according to priorities and material availability
- Load and unload materials, using safe work practices and acceptable rigging procedures
- Using critical thinking and organizational skills to minimize double and triple handling
- Understand and follow customer material specifications. Preserve materials in accordance with customer requirements and manufacturers recommendations
- Examines material delivered to production departments to verify conformance to specifications
- Track and record materials movement, accounting for all project related material. Utilizing computer programs for accurate tracking
- Record materials deliveries. Accounting for overages, shortages and damages
- Assist in the ordering of materials if required. Informing stakeholders of long lead items or materials delivery
- Move materials to required location, utilizing equipment (forklift) when required. Only employees who have been deemed competent will be permitted to operate equipment
- Perform other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- Marine and offshore industry experience, including marine cargo handling experience
- Preferably 3-5 years related experience in the petrochemical industry
- Working knowledge of Control of Work Processes and Systems
- Effective communication skills (written, oral and computer)
- Familiar with quality processes and application of Continuous Improvement tools
- Ability to work with diverse groups and operations, and work closely with others in a remote setting
- Bridge Watch Certification
- STCW Basic Safety & Survival Craft
- Experience and certificates in Crude oil washing, Forklift Operations, Crane Operations and Helicopter Landing Operations
- Familiarity and knowledge of common materials used under a variety of trade disciplines
- Ability to understand project schedules and communicate with project management regarding potential materials related issues
- Computer experience: Microsoft Excel and other functions of Microsoft Office Suite are required. Other project management software, such as Imperium, SAP, Convero and Oracle are not required but considered to be an asset
Physical Requirements
- Must pass a site-specific drug and alcohol test, as required by the customer
- Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50lbs
- Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions as identified above
- Able to move and work in confined spaces, following proper protocol
- Will be required consistently to work 12hour shifts performing physical labour in varying temperature extremes and conditions
- Must be able to climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders, scaffolds and steel framework, utilizing proper fall arrest procedures when required. Able to safely and comfortably work at heights without posing a danger to oneself or others
- Able to meet physical requirements of frequent walking, climbing, standing, bending, twisting and crawling for the duration of the shift

- Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) Certificate of Proficiency
- Rigging, Slinging, and Banksman
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (Marine) (IMDG)
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (Air) IATA
- Basic Survival Training (BST) including HUET and HUEBA
- Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) Alive
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS 2015)
- Offshore Safety Regulatory Awareness
- Fall Protection
- Confined Space Entry
- Marine First Aid
