ReadHycalog is a leading oilfield bit manufacturer that is committed to innovation and investing in technology advancement. The open position is for a mechanical engineer to support Research & Development of fixed cutter drill bits using computational and analytical methods. Broad expertise across multiple engineering domains is required including strength of materials, fatigue and failure analysis, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer. The ideal candidate will be skilled at working with design engineers to interpret technical challenges and translate them to meaningful analysis. Technical creativity and inventive drive are also keys to success. Works on a small technically diverse team dedicated to advancing the state of drill bit technology.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Use computational methods such as FEA, DEA, and CFD to evaluate novel bit technologies and support development
- Analyze field and laboratory failure modes and recommend resolutions
- Engage with varied technical contacts in org to provide computational and fundamental support to projects
- Act as physics and analytical advisor to organization
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficient with computational tools such as Ansys, Abacus, Matlab, Python, etc
- Fundamental and practical understanding of advanced engineering principles such as fracture toughness, strength of materials, thermal properties, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
- 2-10 years industrial experience
- Some experience with mechanical design and CAD helpful
- Direct experience with drill bits or drilling equipment helpful
