About the job:
Kent is looking for a Lead Mechanical Static Engineer to be based in Houston, TX.

You will offer a static equipment background to support local/regional projects with demonstrated engineering experience. You will specify, research, engineer, analyze, evaluate, and document mechanical equipment to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles. You must be detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
Skills and Responsibilities:
  • Work on medium or large size engineering projects with minimum supervision.
  • Able to lead a small team as a lead engineer and/or engineer of record.
  • Execute projects as a working lead.
  • Take ownership and responsibility for technical decisions in area of responsibility.
  • Prepare and review mechanical equipment engineering specifications.
  • Prepare and/or review datasheets for mechanical equipment.
  • Prepare material requisitions for quote (MRQ), technical bid evaluations (TBE), material requisitions for purchase (MRP) and review vendor's documentation for mechanical equipment.
  • Prepare hand and/or computer aided mechanical calculations as required.
  • Support process engineers with the selection of materials of construction for piping and equipment.
  • Prepare/review piping specifications.
  • Provide mechanical input to line list, specialty items list and equipment list.
  • Provide assistance for the resolution of engineering and design problems.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience: Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering plus a minimum of 15 years relevant experience.
  • P.E. licensed preferred.
  • Background with static equipment.
  • Experience with drums, towers, columns, and tanks.
  • Experience with heat exchangers including shell and tube, air cooled, plate and frame, and double pipe.
  • Experience with fired equipment (process heaters and steam generators) desirable.
  • Experience with piping engineering, piping materials, and piping specifications desirable.
  • Familiar with commonly used mechanical engineering standards and codes including but not limited to ASME BPVC, API standards, PIP standards, ASME B31.3 and B31.1 and commonly used mechanical engineering software.
  • Working knowledge of equipment inspection and testing.
  • Working knowledge of pipe stress analysis, CAESAR II or other, a plus.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical material handling equipment (optical sorting, extruders, silos, conveyors, shakers, hoppers, grinders, etc.) a plus
  • Basic oil and gas upstream, midstream and downstream knowledge required.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Word).
  • Working knowledge of the software applicable to their expertise (e.g. Compress, Caesar II, NozzlePro, HTRI, etc.).
  • Experience with AutoCAD or other design software a plus.


Communication:
  • Excellent verbal, written and communication skills required.
  • Ready to work directly with Clients.
  • Must be able to work under pressure.
