About the Role: 

Technical Fire & Safety Engineer (Mechanical/Process) - Engineering Department

We focus on smart safety solutions for integrated firefighting systems for offshore brownfield and greenfield platforms, onshore Petrochemical as well as Marine. We are a recognized provider of solutions for complex system designs and integration. 

Subject matter experts within Active Fire Protection Systems, we ensure the facts and details are correct so that the project’s/program’s deliverables will meet the needs of the stakeholders, legislation, policies, standards, and best practices. 

With a focus on optimising the life of our clients' assets, we provide engineering and consulting services to comply with clients’ specifications, the Australian Standards as well as overseas and NFPA and IMO (International Maritime Organization) defined requirements. Assisting clients, assuring their system complies with DNV-GL, ABS (Australian Bureau of Statistics) or Lloyds or other independent verification bodies requirements is part of ‘what we do’ as well. 

As Technical Fire & Safety Engineer your responsibilities include working alongside other professionals with studies, projects, consultancies and assisting with bids, liaising with external stakeholders, attending meetings, assure jobs remain within budgetary and time constraints, and compiling reports on regular basis.  

You will be based at our Canning Vale office and potentially over time, you will be required to work remotely on oil & gas facilities for short trips (1 to 2 weeks at the time), both onshore and offshore. 

Your duties will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Analysing problems and producing designs to solve them 
  • Networking and collaborating with other engineers and professionals 
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders  
  • Attending meetings and providing input and updates 
  • Communicating with staff, directors, and clients 
  • Be familiar and up to date on relevant rules and regulations, standards and specifications and implement these in designs and daily work 

Provide Technical Fire and Safety Engineering Services such as:  

  • Fire Risk consideration, and selection on type of Fire Protection System / Equipment 
  • System functional specifications 
  • Preparation of Fire Protection Plot Plans, Piping, and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID’s)
  • Design of deluge nozzle layout drawings and deluge distribution piping
  • Hydraulic calculations and balancing (static and transient analysis) of deluge (waterspray) piping distribution systems
  • Fluid mechanic calculations: Pressure, flow rate, head losses, pump duties, (using software Pipenet, Bernoulli’s principles, Darcy-Weisbach, and Hazen-William's equations etc.) 
  • Apply design codes such as: NFPA, ISO, AS, NORSOK, DNV, ABS, Lloyds etc. 

Requirements

  • A relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 3 - 5+ years' work experience in Oil & Gas Industry, Aviation or Specialised Marine (desirable)
  • Strong analytical, creativity; and problem-solving skills
