Your role and responsibilities

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Head of Customs & Trade Compliance to join our team and help drive and coordinate the local implementation of ABB's Global Trade Program. This role is key in ensuring that local businesses operate in compliance with ABB's Trade policies and guidelines, focusing on the oversight of customs, sanctions, and export control regulations. The Head of Customs & Trade Compliance will be instrumental in identifying and mitigating potential risks, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, and offering hands-on support to local business operations. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the team and driving the professional and personal development of the Customs and Export team members. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) and functionally to the Business Trade Manager of the Lead Business. • Serve as the main point of contact for local trade compliance authorities and management, ensuring compliance with export controls, sanctions, and customs regulations, and managing export license applications. • Develop, implement, and maintain trade compliance standards, procedures, and systems (e.g., SAP GTS), including product classification, customs management, and transaction-based compliance. • Oversee trade compliance risk management, conduct internal audits, monitor compliance with regulations, and manage trade facilitation programs, permits, and authorizations. • Lead the implementation of trade compliance training programs, raise awareness across the organization, and provide guidance to local business teams to ensure alignment with ABB's Global Trade Program.

Qualifications for the role

• Solid understanding of export control and customs rules, with potential for further expertise development.
• Several years of experience in business processes, with a strong understanding of supply chain management, risk management, and logistics.
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organization, providing guidance and training to local teams.
• Proficient in English & German both verbal and written.
• Strong business mindset, self-driven, and responsive to operational needs.
• Technical knowledge in the relevant product areas (though willingness to learn is essential).
