Vestas Wind are looking for an experienced Head of Technical Sales and Project Management to join our collaborative FE&T team in Melbourne. This is an exciting newly created position adding great value to the ANZ business with reach across all departments, ensuring a formidable technical package and cohesive message to our clients across the region.

Frontend Engineering & Technology (FE&T) Asia Pacific (APAC) represents Vestas Technology in Asia Pacific (APAC), where we operate across the spectrum of Sustainable Energy Solutions with Onshore and Offshore wind at the core.

In FE&T APAC, we are responsible for technical requirements management, technical scoping and contracting, technical value engineering, technical risk management, technical execution throughout the life cycle of a project, from Development to Sales to Customer Project Execution to Service.

The ANZ Technical Sales & Project Management team works on some of the renewable energy industry's most exciting technical value propositions and contracts, providing the link between our projects in Sales and Execution phase, with our customers and stakeholders in the Regional Business Unit and with our global Research & Development teams.

We are now looking for a leader for this team, comprised of Technical Bid Managers operating in the Sales / Transactional Sales project phase and Technical Project Managers operating in the Project Execution phase.

Vestas Technology & Operations (VTO) represents Vestas' entire industrial system from Technology to Procurement, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality. In relation to Technology, VTO interfaces with Vestas' regional business units through its Frontend Engineering & Technology (FE&T).

Responsibilities

You will be a member of the FE&T APAC Leadership team and will lead the ANZ onshore focused department and portfolio, developing, motivating and engaging a highly skilled technical team, ensuring full accountability for technical solutions in ANZ projects, and securing technical deliverables during sales (WTG and Service sales) and execution phase.

  • People leadership, with high focus on people and talent development, talent attraction, diversity & inclusion. In developing your team, you will be a role model for Vestas' core values: Accountability, Simplicity, Passion, Collaboration
  • Managing a portfolio of projects from a technical perspective, including resource planning and allocation across Technical Bid and Technical Project Management
  • Technical leadership throughout the life cycle of ANZ projects, providing guidance and steering while empowering a multi-disciplinary team of technical specialists to ensure an optimized, risk-assessed and risk-mitigated business case
  • Developing continuous improvement with customer focus, scalability and quality focus front-of-mind, through strategic and structural improvement initiatives across the team
  • Piloting technical market requirements capture for ANZ to contribute to wind power plant technology roadmap inputs
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders across the business, including but not limited to: direct peers across APAC and global technical teams e.g. Grid, Electrical BoP, SCADA
  • Cybersecurity, Siting, Lifecycle Engineering, Plant Performance, amongst others; our global Frontend Engineering & Technology and R&D functions; Regional Business Unit stakeholders including ANZ Sales, ANZ Construction, ANZ Service, Supply Chain, Procurement and Legal
  • You can expect a strong external-facing component, getting involved in building and fostering technical customer relationships, including Technical Key Account leadership
  • Through your team, you will be the first point of contact towards customers related to technical matters throughout Sales and Execution phases of ANZ projects


Qualifications
  • Masters in Business Management, Electrical Engineering or Power Systems with commercial exposure will be highly regarded

  • Results-oriented, with the ability to develop a team with high quality focus
  • Solid communication skills and prior experience interacting with a variety of technical and commercial stakeholders, at every level of an organization, internally and externally
  • Experience and ability to present at executive level
  • Confidence in directing technical negotiations, ideally of heavy machinery, power plant equipment or similar, in Australia or globally
  • The ability to be creative, organised and collaborative with proven experience working in diverse, complex and pressured project environments within a matrix organization
  • High level of customer focus, with a holistic understanding of how technical solutions impact a business case commercially and contractually
  • High curiosity for multi-faceted technical content and challenges, and ability to navigate technical problem-solving effectively, building a holistic understanding of commercial and legal aspects of technical solutions
  • Flexibility for travel across the region
  • Knowledge of wind / renewable energy technical functions
