Ensure that all geological data is accurately interpreted and integrated with geophysical data for optimal resource extraction. Utilize advanced geological software to create detailed subsurface maps and cross-sections. Conduct thorough geological assessments to determine the viability of potential drilling sites. Review/interpret subsurface data and generate optimized drillable well locations and well proposals and influence geological operations.
Principal Accountabilities
- Plan and develop geological inputs for field development and asset value optimization activities.
- Develop and manage comprehensive geological models and simulations and follow up on drilling operations and use the drilling results to improve and update the geological models.
- Analyze structural trap styles to evaluate hydrocarbon accumulation mechanisms and optimize exploration and development strategies.
- Develop Reservoir Quality (RQ) Prediction models for better reservoir performance forecasting and decision-making.
- Review and participate in evaluating volumetrics and update geological models periodically as a result of ongoing drilling, production depletion and test data analyses. Incorporate findings into Annual Review of Reserves and review updates as necessary.
- Coordinate in-house, laboratory, and specialist consultant activities to enhance project outcomes.
- Review and predict reservoir pressure to optimize recovery and mitigate risks.
- Collaborate to recommend drilling locations and subsurface targets to optimize field development.
- Contribute to coordination and management of mud logging, well site geology LWD, wireline and other subsurface contracts.
- Plan and lead on-the job coaching and development of junior staff in the discipline.
Decision Making Authority
- Operates within the broad guidelines established by the team Head, taking responsibility for their actions and their outcomes. Requires minimal oversight from the team Head.
- Within broad guidelines set by the Team leader, the position performs a near real-time monitoring for well profile geo-steering with the objective to make an optimum contact with reservoir target
- Recommend operations entailing annual expenditure of millions of QR and generate hundreds of millions of QR revenue to the company. In many instances, the success or failure of an implemented plan will not become apparent until many years into the project, after the entire capital expenditure has been expended.
- Devise own and collective work methods in accordance with overall departmental policies and goals and specialized technical procedures and standards. Demonstrate considerable independence because of the specialist nature of work, the success of which can only be measured after its conclusion and implementation of recommendations. Integrate and leverage the key variables in finding solutions to wide-ranging problems involving multiple disciplines.
- Identify subsurface uncertainties and develop mitigations/solutions by assessing alternatives and related risk/reward.
- The incumbent may be on site, or on call, for extended periods. The incumbent will need the mental rigour to deal with frequent disruptions outside working hours and to make optimal operational decisions regardless of the nature or timing of the disruption.
- Ensure that relevant environmental and safety standards are enacted for all projects and activities under his/her authority and produce high Quality "fit-for-purpose" deficiency free work. Through the Quality of the work, establish a high degree of trust between the different disciplines of the team.
Experience
