Run What Runs the World

At ABB, we help important industries outrun - leaner and cleaner.

Every person here makes that happen. By rethinking, rewiring, and improving, we combine the world's best minds and technologies to elevate performance to a whole new level.

Because at ABB, progress is an expectation - for you, your team, and the world. As a R&D Senior Electrical Engineer, you'll take on challenges that transform industries and drive innovation. We give you the market-leading expertise, technology, and opportunity, and you own the challenge to make an impact that matters.

It won't always be easy. Growing takes grit. Innovating takes the courage to try, fail, learn, and succeed. But at ABB, you'll never run alone.

Your Role: Own the Challenge/Take on the Journey
  • Lead the design and engineering of LV power distribution systems (up to 1000VAC) for data centers and marines, including main switchboards, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), Power Distribution Units (PDUs), and sub-distribution panels.
  • Develop detailed single-line diagrams (SLDs), schematic diagrams, general arrangement drawings, and cable schedules.
  • Perform advanced electrical calculations: short-circuit, selectivity/coordination studies (using ETAP, SKM, or similar), arc-flash analysis, and load flow analysis.
  • Specify and select major electrical components (circuit breakers, busbars, protective relays, meters) based on project requirements and total cost of ownership.
  • Ensure designs comply with a blend of standards: IEC 61439, IEC60947, GB/T7251, GB/T 14048, Uptime Institute Tiers. IEEE 45, IEC 60092, GB/T 22195 and major Classification Society rules (e.g., ABS, CCC, CE and UL).
  • Author detailed technical specifications and Request for Proposals (RFPs) for LV switchgear and associated equipment.
  • Lead technical clarifications and customer requirement evaluations, ensuring vendor proposals comply with design intent, industry standards, and client specifications.
  • Review and approve vendor submittals, including design drawings, test plans, and factory acceptance test (FAT) procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams (Mechanical,Control) and external stakeholders (clients, panel manufacturing) to ensure integrated and optimized designs.
  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and site acceptance tests (SAT), resolving complex design-related issues on-site.
  • Drive innovation by researching and implementing new technologies to enhance system reliability, efficiency, and scalability。

What it takes to Run what runs the world
  • o Education: Bachelor/Master's degree in electrical engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in electrical design, with at least 5 years focused on LV switchgear/motor control centers (MCC) for mission-critical facilities (Data Centers, Hospitals, Semiconductor Plants and Marines).
  • Expert knowledge of international electrical standards: IEC 61439 & GB/T7251 (LV switchgear assemblies), IEC 60947 & GB/T 14048, and a solid understanding of IEEE standards.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Creo for design review and collaboration.
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken).
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a detail-oriented mindset.
  • Preferred Qualifications (NICE-TO-HAVES)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
  • Knowledge of medium voltage (MV) systems and generator paralleling systems.
  • Familiarity with sustainability principles and energy-efficient design practices.
  • Experience with power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, SKM Power*Tools, or equivalent).
