Your role and responsibilities

This role will be reporting to the R&D Leader in business area Process Automation (PA) located in Bangalore. You will be working at Ability Innovation Center (AIC), home to the largest technology and engineering pool in ABB globally and is a part of ABB Global Industries and Services Private Limited, a subsidiary of ABB. It is based in Bangalore, the silicon-valley of India. Its unique infrastructure places research, development, engineering, and service teams under one roof, increasing collaboration and reducing time to market, with no compromise on quality.

As part of a proficient team of engineers, you will work on advancing innovative industrial control applications tailored for the Energy service sector Collaborating with teams in Norway, Sweden and Germany, the breadth of technologies and control strategies employed is broad. You will be mainly accountable for:

• Position yourself as a distinguished technical leader, promoting innovation and crafting strategic architectures for Edge and Cloud-based solutions, consistent with long-term technology and business plans.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and market trends (ABB and competitors), establish and enforce architectural standards, guidelines, and best practices, and ensure key product qualities such as scalability, performance, availability, and observability.
• Own platform security and compliance by creating and maintaining threat models, ensuring security-by-design, and meeting ABB Product Security Assessment (PSA) requirements.
• Collaborate closely with platform teams, product management, customers, and stakeholders to make key architectural decisions, plan the architectural runway, and align platform evolution with future capabilities.
• Mentor and guide development teams, conduct architecture reviews, optimize platforms for rapid and innovative application development, manage technical debt, and maintain clear, up-to-date architectural documentation.

Qualifications for the role:

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, along with a solid understanding of software architecture, platform product development, and experience in creating 5-10 product architectures is required.
• In-depth experience with cloud-based SaaS application development, alongside containerization and orchestration practices utilizing Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift/MicroShift, with an emphasis on Azure.
• Proficiency in modern technology stacks including C# .NET Core, Kubernetes, event-driven and messaging systems (Kafka, MassTransit), time-series and relational databases, with frontend exposure to React and TypeScript as a plus.
• A comprehensive understanding of security and compliance matters, encompassing areas such as authentication, authorization, cryptography, and IT/networking, as well as knowledge of standards like OWASP, ISO 27001, NIST, NCA, IEC, and GDPR.
• Experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies, Azure DevOps, GitHub, and effective collaboration with client stakeholders, business users, and technical teams.
• Exposure to industrial architecture, industrial protocols, and the industrial automation domain, with interest in applying emerging technologies to optimization, sustainability, energy management, and autonomous operations.
• Well-organized and communicative professional possessing leadership traits and the capacity to handle demanding circumstances, with fluency in both spoken and written English.
