This Position reports to:
R&D Department Lead

Your role and responsibilities:

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB's success with technology, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.

This role is contributing to the Electrification Business Area for the Smart Buildings Division based in Hyderabad.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Highly motivated R&D engineer with proven hands‑on experience independently leading and executing product development initiatives for the ELSB NEMA Breaker portfolio, driven by a strong passion for delivering innovative, customer‑centric solutions.
• Deep technical expertise in electrical panelboard and circuit breaker design, supported by strong working knowledge of relevant UL standards and compliance requirements.
• Comprehensive product development lifecycle experience, including design, testing, analysis, root‑cause investigation, qualification, and certification, with a proven ability to deliver cost‑effective, compliant design solutions.
• Proficiency with simulation tools, including ANSYS, to accelerate development cycles and optimize product performance, along with valuable exposure to current interruption processes.
• Leadership in product definition and innovation, guiding requirement development, gate reviews, and design validation, while evaluating emerging technologies and contributing to IP generation through competitor analysis and patent‑worthy concepts.
• Strong cross‑functional collaboration and communication skills, demonstrated through close coordination with manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and suppliers, as well as producing clear, high‑quality technical reports and documentation.

Qualifications for the role:

• B.Tech/M.S/M.Tech in Electrical/Mechanical from reputed institutes with 8+ years of hands-on experience in Electrical product design/development and Analysis.
• Proficient in Ansys and CAD Tools like Creo, Pro/ENGINEER etc.
• Expertise in high volume manufacturing processes, including stamping, molding, welding, assembly, and automation
• Proven track record of executing product design projects both independently and as part of cross‑functional teams
• Experience with product documentation (Windchill experience preferred)
• Nice to have - Experience in electro-mechanical products, including electrical distribution devices.
