Your Role and Responsibilities
In this role, you will help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact. You will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB's success with technology, software, product, and system development. You will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.

ABB's medium voltage manufacturing facility at Henderson, Auckland, is a global factory with research and development responsibility for the ABB SafeLink gas insulated Ringmain switchgear. The Division offers segment-specific products and solutions that largely serve utilities, industry and infrastructure segments, often providing the requisite medium-voltage link between high-voltage transmission systems and low-voltage users. Work model: Onsite #LI-Onside
- Work as an independent and reliable contributor in R&D projects with limited supervision, driving innovation in product design and development.
- Perform various tasks in your assigned area-mechanics and thermal - from building concepts through design, implementation, integration, testing, and technology transfer.
- Understand and apply applicable processes, standards, and design constraints while collaborating with local and global teams to develop, test, and support products in our manufacturing operation.
- Drive the achievement of assigned targets (quality, time, scope, cost) and proactively raise and address risks to ensure project success.

Qualifications for the Role
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, with 5+ years of experience in Product Design and Development.
- Highly proficient in CAD tools (SolidWorks) with demonstrated expertise in designing products for repetitive manufacturing environments.
- Strong experience with metal fabrication, sheet metal, and plastic components-from concept through production.
- Mindset to innovate around product design, take ownership of technical challenges, and drive continuous improvement.
- Fluent English communication skills (written and verbal)
- Current valid NZ VISA/work permit.
