JOB TITLE: OPERATIONS GEOLOGIST
LOCATION: SURINAME (ROTATIONAL)
ASSIGNMENT TYPE: CONTRACT - 4 WEEKS ON 4 WEEKS OFF
CONTRACT LENGTH & TYPE: ANNUALLY RENEWABLE CONTRACT

MISSIONS / SERVICE DIMENSIONS
This role is part of the Subsurface Geological Operations team and reports to the Subsurface/Exploration Manager. The position is rotational and requires extensive interaction with Subsurface, Asset teams, Exploration teams, and operational/HSE teams.
The role is critical in ensuring safe, efficient, and optimized geological operations throughout the full well lifecycle (pre-well, execution, and post-well phases), while maintaining data integrity and compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive Subsurface Geological Operations support including:
- Contribute to HSE in subsurface geological operations, including pore & fracture pressure monitoring, temperature tracking, and real-time geological monitoring during drilling
- Ensure the security, integrity, and quality of well data acquisition
- Act as the primary operational interface between Subsurface, Asset teams, and operational/HSE teams
- Support well preparation, operations follow-up, data interpretation, and post-well studies
- Participate in technical workshops and operational meetings
- Facilitate well optimization, cost reduction, and knowledge sharing across regions
- Manage relationships with data acquisition service companies at country level
- Develop strong relationships with contractors, authorities, and partners to ensure compliance and effective operational strategies

Specific Activities

Pre-Well Phase
- Act as a key contributor to 3W and WSOR processes
- Integrate offset well post-mortems, pore & fracture pressure studies, and hazard assessments
- Propose optimized and cost-effective data acquisition programs with HSE integration
- Support drilling budget preparation and procurement of services
- Provide recommendations to technical and senior management teams
- Influence partners on non-operated wells (participation in TCM)
- Recommend and organize adequate staffing for operations execution

Well Execution Phase
- Coordinate and support wellsite geological operations teams
- Ensure contractual compliance in execution and cost control
- Validate quality, reliability, and relevance of acquired data
- Optimize acquisition programs and associated costs
- Implement and manage real-time technical support solutions
- Provide accurate reporting to Subsurface, Exploration, and HSE management
- Plan and coordinate petrophysical interpretation activities

Post-Well Phase
- Oversee handling, analysis, and storage of rock and fluid samples
- Ensure completion of studies, data archiving, and final reporting in line with regulations
- Monitor service company performance (cost and quality) and report findings
- Ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements
- Apply and promote company HSE policies across all subsurface operations

CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT
This role operates in a technically demanding and international oil & gas environment, potentially including onshore, shallow water, and deepwater operations. The position requires adaptability to remote or challenging operational locations and close collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.

WORK SCHEME CONDITIONS
Rotational position: 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off, based on:
- 7 working days per week
- 8 hours per day

Requirements

Education
- Minimum BSc (Hons) Degree in Geology or equivalent

Experience
- 10-12+ years in the oil & gas industry
- Minimum 5 years in Subsurface Operations (e.g., Wellsite Geology, Operations Geology, Petrophysics, Subsurface Leadership roles)
- Strong knowledge of exploration and petroleum engineering processes
- Extensive experience in well operations across onshore, shallow water, and deepwater environments
- Proven ability to work in cross-functional and multicultural teams
