Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will join ABB's Industrial Automation Digital organization as a Domain Engineer, contributing to the development of next-generation industrial automation products.
You will leverage your expertise in industrial process automation and IEC 61131 programming to develop robust, reusable, and scalable control applications for process industries. Working closely with product managers, architects, software engineers, and quality teams, you will transform customer and domain requirements into reliable automation functionality that supports ABB's digital product portfolio.
The work model for the role is: Hybrid

The work model for the role is: Hybrid
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Design, develop, and maintain industrial automation applications using IEC 61131 programming languages such as Structured Text (ST), Function Block Diagram (FBD), and Ladder Logic.
- Develop reusable engineering assets including function block libraries, templates, standard sequences, and configurable automation modules to improve product quality and engineering efficiency.
- Translate domain knowledge from Food & Beverage, Chemical, Refinery, Oil & Gas, or similar process industries into scalable automation functionality and product features.
- Design and implement industrial control strategies including sequencing, state machines, interlocks, permissives, alarms, diagnostics, and process automation logic.
- Participate in requirement analysis, solution design, architecture discussions, and technical reviews to ensure high-quality product development.
- Execute unit, integration, and functional validation activities while performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions for identified issues.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including functional specifications, design documents, configuration guidelines, interface descriptions, and test reports.
- Collaborate with software developers, architects, quality engineers, and product owners in Agile development teams to deliver high-quality industrial automation solutions.
- Contribute to continuous product improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance performance, maintainability, diagnostics, and engineering best practices.
Qualifications for the role
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Electronics, Control Systems, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 3-10 years of experience in Industrial Automation, Control Systems Engineering, or Product Development.
- Strong hands-on experience with IEC 61131 application programming, including Structured Text (ST), Function Block Diagram (FBD), and Ladder Logic.
- Good understanding of PLC and DCS architecture, industrial control systems, sequencing, state logic, alarms, interlocks, diagnostics, and process control concepts.
- Experience designing reusable automation libraries, engineering templates, and modular control applications.
- Strong understanding of process industries such as Food & Beverage, Oil & Gas, Chemical, Refinery, or similar manufacturing domains.
- Experience working throughout the software development lifecycle including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex automation and control system challenges.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills with experience working in cross-functional Agile teams.
- Experience with ABB System 800xA and/or ABB Sattline systems will be considered an added advantage.
