Permian Basin Overview
ConocoPhillips and its heritage companies have operated in the Permian Basin for almost 100 years. Across New Mexico and Texas, the company holds conventional positions in the Northwest Shelf and Central Basin Platform, and an unconventional position in the Delaware Basin. Permian saw significant growth in 2021 with the acquisition of Concho Resources Inc. in January 2021 and the addition of Shell's Permian acreage in December 2021. At year-end, the company held approximately 1.5 million net acres in the Permian Basin.

Net production for the Permian in 2022 was 461 MBOED.

Description
The Permian Asset teams are seeking a Development Geologist who will report to the Geoscience Supervisor and be an integral part of the Asset Team. The Asset Team is charged with core area value creation through aggressive primary development of identified and growth resources. The position is supported by a highly qualified group of geoscience professionals, including geoscience technicians, and a geophysicist.

If you are selected as the geoscientist, you will build, plan and execute the development program as well as support the evaluation of non-operated activity in your area. You will work with all functions of the organization in a legacy asset with high activity and technical advancements. The ability to effectively communicate recommendations to leaders is essential.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Collaborate with the drilling department on all aspects of drilling development and exploitation wells, supporting same with geological prognoses, logging program recommendations, core analysis programs, and geosteering
  • Make recommendations to management for the drilling of development wells, working with reservoir engineering counterparts to ensure alignment of commercial/economic evaluation
  • Partner with completions team to develop a geologically grounded stimulation plan
  • Conduct and/or coordinate post-audits on development/exploitation well programs and report results to management
  • Generate and update maps in assigned area of responsibility using all appropriate data and applicable technologies (including, but not limited to, production, petrophysics, geochemical and core data, 2D/3D seismic data) to create, high-grade, and prioritize drilling location inventory
  • Assist in evaluation of third-party acreage submittals and/or property acquisitions
  • Monitor industry activity utilizing public data and industry networks
  • Work closely with Delaware Basin Land to acquire acreage or extensions of core area selected for leasehold capital expenditures
  • Work with Asset team members to develop capital budget plans and to track implementation of same
  • Drive drill schedule, from well conception to TD

Basic/Required:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Master's degree or higher in Geoscience, other related business field, other related technical field, or foreign equivalent
  • 1+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry

Preferred:
  • Prior work experience in Permian unconventional resource plays
  • Proficiency in each of the following: Stratigraphy, Structural interpretation, Regional evaluation and play fairway mapping, Well tops and correlation, Well design and planning, Landing target analysis
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
  • Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
  • Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
