At the University of Hull, we know diversity fosters creativity and innovation, and we want our community to represent the diversity of the world's talent. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, and to being a place where we all belong.
We therefore particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in the University of Hull workplace. This includes people from global minority backgrounds; people who have a declared disability; LGBTQI+ people; and women particularly for our Grade 9 and 10 roles.
Excited to grow your career?
We value our talented employees, and whenever possible strive to help colleagues to grow and progress in their future careers.
We recognise that our people are our biggest asset. We hope you'll be as excited as we are by what lies ahead. Let's continue our journey. With great on-site facilities and numerous awards in recognition of our achievements within the Professional Services World, we want to continue growing and nurturing our existing staff as we endeavour to take on our next challenges as a University.
Salary is negotiable between £38,249 - £40,497per annum, depending on experience. Plus, a personal development budget of up to £4,000.
An exciting opportunity to work with a regional blue-light public sector organisation on an ambitious and innovative 24-month project developing new ideas, methodologies, and technologies.
Humberside Fire & Rescue Service keep the communities within East Riding of Yorkshire, Hull, North and North-East Lincolnshire a safer place 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Their key remit is to save lives, reduce injuries and losses through fire and other emergencies and reduce the number of incidents.
This KTP project will enable Humberside Fire & Rescue Service to gain significant insight into their impact on the environment through embedded carbon mapping capacity and capability. This will allow them to demonstrate leadership in their sector and give them the basis to reduce impact and deliver future continuous improvement and efficiency savings.
This project is a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) - part of a national, Government-supported initiative, which provides graduates with fast-track career opportunities through work on challenging technical & IT projects (for more information please visit https://www.ktp-uk.org).
The KTP project will be fully supported with expertise from the University of Hull and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.
You will be supported to continue your personal and professional development throughout the project, acquiring new transferable skills that will enhance your employability; a £4000 budget is available to support this training. The project offers the potential to undertake a higher degree (although this is not a requirement of the post).
For the right candidate there are excellent prospects for obtaining permanent employment with Humberside Fire and Rescue Service at the end of the KTP project.
We are looking for a candidate who has an honours degree (preferably at the 2:1 level or above) - and potentially a Masters qualification or a doctorate - in a relevant business or environmental discipline. As well as this, you will need:
The Associate's primary function is to effect the mapping of carbon throughout the HFRS asset register and supply chain; present this in a useable format; and influence future actions to manage and reduce the Service's future carbon footprint, allowing it to contribute to net zero. We require the Associate to hold a minimum of an upper second-class Honours degree in a related environmental or business discipline. An understanding of carbon creation, carbon mapping and carbon capture techniques will be an advantage.
The Associate will be a target/data-driven, self-motivated, team player with good interpersonal skills, and proactive in solving problems. The demanding nature and range of work involved will require the candidate to be flexible, well-organised, and eager to learn new skills.
The Associate will exhibit understanding of the skills and management competencies in undertaking analytical work, change management, process improvement, and project and time management.
Key requirements:
This project requires an excellent understanding of carbon creation, carbon mapping, carbon offsetting and carbon capture techniques. This will include working with and understanding large amounts of complex data, and analysing data with a complex supply chain. It is essential for the candidate to hold a graduate degree in a relevant business or environmental discipline. Time management and self-guided learning are essential. Good theoretical and applied knowledge of data analysis, including validating environmental analytical data to ensure data quality objectives are met. Good communication skills, project management, teamwork are also needed.
