Technicians / ServiceEssential Job Functions: Responsible for the installation, repair, maintenance, and testing of a wide variety of electrical equipment and lighting and power systems at City buildings, lift stations, water plants, wastewater plant, including interior and exterior lighting equipment and service, alarm systems, AC-DC motors, manual and magnetic controllers, AC-DC generators, and various other electrical devices; troubleshoots and repairs defects in electrical systems that range from low voltage DC to 4160 AC; identifies work to be performed, makes material lists, and assigns labor units to determine the estimated price for electrical installations, remodeling and construction; calculates AMP loads for electrical equipment installation; draws schematic diagrams, connects and tests manual and magnetic controllers, three-phase motors, series shunt motors, compound DC motors, synchronous and multi-speed starters; uses blueprints, specifications, and schematics to install wiring, conduit, switches, panels, and lighting; bends pipes; lay outs and installs temporary pole service and permanent underground service; operates pickup truck, aerial bucket truck, and ditch witch; keeps track of hours expended on daily time sheets and on work orders.

Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather; exposed to electrical equipment; possibility of electrical shock and hazardous conditions; subject to untreated sludge, noise, chemicals and gases. Working under and above ground several feet. Must be available to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m., occasionally shift work, overtime when necessary and subject to 24 hour call.
Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of tools and materials used in the trade; knowledge of electrical principles and applications of AC-DC circuitry and three-phase power distribution; knowledge of motors, generators, controls, and transformers; knowledge of electrical codes and ordinances; knowledge of sewage related equipment, preferably Allen-Bradley equipment; knowledge of PC operations including DOS, windows and spreadsheets preferred; knowledge of related mathematics and electrical blueprint reading; hazards and dangers inherent in working with live electricity and of the various safety practices and procedures commonly used to prevent accidents.Skills in locating and repairing defects in electrical equipment, lighting and power systems; ability to calculate ratings for electrical service, feeders and branch circuits; ability to draw schematic diagrams and to connect and test control devices; ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, wiring diagrams and schematics; ability to carry out oral and written instructions; ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; ability to speak, read and write the English language; ability to keep accurate records of time and material usage; ability to estimate materials and labor for electrical installation, remodeling and construction; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, employees and the public.
Physical Requirements: Essential: Constantly hears and sees (must be able to distinguish colors), drives, climbs, kneels, squats, stands, stoops, twist body, walks, and lifts items weighing up to 75 lbs.; frequently uses a calculator, crawls, carries objects weighing up to 50 lbs., pulls and pushes objects weighing up to 100 lbs., and hold objects weighing up to 25 lbs.; infrequently writes by hand, and drags objects weighing up to 100 lbs., cleans, sits, and sorts.
Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent; minimum three (3) years on-the-job training as an apprentice maintenance electrician, plus four (4) years working experience as a maintenance electrician required; Journeyman or Maintenance Electrician certification required.
Must possess a valid Class C driver' s license with a good driving record. (Class B/ CDL driver's license preferred). Other state valid Driver' s License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver' s license. Must obtain a Class A/CDL driver's license within six (6) months of employment.
