JOB DESCRIPTION: Maintenance & Energy Management Specialist

SALARY SCHEDULE: W III

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

SAFETY-SENSITIVE: YES

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Maintenance and Energy Management Specialist is responsible for identifying building maintenance needs and ensuring compliance with Mid-Del Public Schools' Energy Usage Program. This position supports district-wide operations by walking facilities to evaluate maintenance issues, coordinating with site administrators, and submitting work orders. The role requires independent action, strong communication skills, and limited oversight. Working hours are from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Vocational or technical training in facilities maintenance, HVAC systems, or energy management preferred.
  • Experience in maintenance, inspections, or energy program implementation in schools or public facilities is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Familiarity with facility management software or work order systems.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including walking, lifting, climbing, and working in various environmental conditions.
  • Valid Oklahoma driver's license required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct routine walkthroughs of school buildings and district facilities to assess maintenance conditions and identify repair needs.
  • Coordinate with building administrators to prioritize and resolve facility concerns.
  • Enter and manage work orders for maintenance and custodial services using district-approved software.
  • Monitor and support compliance with the District's Energy Usage Program, including lighting, HVAC scheduling, and energy conservation behaviors.
  • Assist in promoting energy-saving initiatives and report noncompliance issues.
  • Document inspection findings, recommendations, and progress on repairs.
  • Report urgent safety or facility issues to the Director of Maintenance and Operations.
  • Operate independently, using good judgment to make informed decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Participate in ongoing training related to building maintenance, systems monitoring, and energy efficiency.

LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fume or airborne particles. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold (including outdoors), extreme heat (including direct sunlight), risk of electrical shock and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud.

To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee's eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employee's supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Employee may occasionally be required to supervise a varying number of employees in the overall direction, coordination, and completion of tasks as assigned.
