FLEET MANAGEMENT DIVISION

GENERATOR SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE FOREMAN

Salary $25.40hourly/$52,832.00 annually

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Supervisory and skilled technical abilities in directing the operations of a generator systems maintenance program.

Assists with planning, coordinating and supervising the maintenance of generators in the field or in the shop. Makes general and detailed assignments of work to mechanics and vendors engaged in maintenance of all aspects of generator systems.

Oversees and reviews the work of mechanics and vendors to whom the repair and maintenance work has been assigned. Oversees and may perform the inspection, testing and operation of generators to determine the nature of defects and failures. Diagnoses generator malfunctions and suggests maintenance approaches on difficult maintenance/repair problems.

Determines the most efficient methods to repair or provide maintenance to generators as necessary. May performs work duties of mechanics and staff as necessary in relations to generator systems maintenance.

Oversees and approves requisitions, repair parts, lubricants, supplies and equipment used in generator maintenance operations. Oversees, reviews, prepares and approves documents, both on paper and computer of work performed both in progress and completed. Oversees vendor contract and audits invoices to ensure proper service is rendered and cost is correct. May prepare reports of repair work undertaken and cost of repair work. Inspects tools and equipment for condition and proper use.

Writes and executes performance reviews, commendations, disciplinary action and all manner of personnel development matters for employees within his/her authority. Deals directly with customers and vendors in matters of customer service, problem solving, matters of generator specifications and improvements. Performs related supervisory personnel work and completes appropriate forms, reports, etc.

Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the methods, practices, materials and tools common to the generator service industry and trade. Knowledge of the operating and repair characteristics of a wide variety of generator equipment. Knowledge of the operation and repair of the internal combustion gasoline, propane and diesel engines. Knowledge of the operation and the repair of the generator systems including the transfer switch. Knowledge of the instruments employed in the testing and operation and repair of generator equipment including but not limited to diagnostic equipment, meters and scopes. Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the generator service trade and ability to assure safe work practices are followed at all times. Ability to layout, instruct and supervise the work of skilled mechanics and other shop workers.

Ability to diagnose defects in maintenance generator and related equipment. Ability to perform tests and other checks of the effectiveness of repair work. Ability to drive. Ability to lift minimum of forty five

(45) pounds weight. Ability to perform tasks that require eye and hand coordination. Ability to complete and prepare records and reports. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment in the generator trade.

Must have an understanding of computers and the ability to work and understand maintenance software.

Must have a clear understanding of the importance of customer service and the importance of limiting downtime to a minimum.

This position is considered essential personnel and may be called upon for after-hours service and advice both for routine business situations and for extraordinary circumstances such as weather related emergencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited high school/trade school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma and have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in generator systems maintenance and repair including three (3) years directing the work of others.

Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid Florida Driver's license at time of employment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
This position shall be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
