Electrical Technician
The NEC Group is looking for talented and passionate individuals to join our dynamic team. Our mission is to create unforgettable experiences through world class events and services.
We have a fantastic opening for an Electrical Technician to join our Arenas Team.
You will be working across two of the UKs top 10 arenas which hold over 200 events and welcome 1.5 million fans every year. Based in Birmingham City Centre and on the NEC Campus in Solihull, you will be part of a team that welcomes people to a wide variety of events, from concerts and comedy to sporting and family events, no two days are ever the same!
About The Role
The Electrical Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, inspecting, testing, and modifying temporary electrical mains supply systems for exhibitions and events, in compliance with BS 7671, IEE Wiring Regulations, and BS 7909. The role also involves leading specific projects related to venue lighting, sound, and audiovisual systems for both event and non event operations.

About The Role

Day to day you will:
- Act as the main point of contact for mains, lighting, sound, and AV services across events and non events, working closely with internal teams and external productions.
- Ensure all temporary electrical installations meet Health and Safety standards and legislative requirements, including overseeing high risk tasks and safe systems of work.
- Provide expert advice, training, and recommendations on sound, lighting, AV, and mains services, while maintaining and inspecting temporary electrical systems.
- Lead projects to completion, deputise for senior staff when required, and ensure operational procedures align with industry standards and customer expectations.
- Stay updated on industry innovations, identify personal development needs, and ensure staff training meets regulatory and venue specific standards.
About You
Our Ideal Candidate will be:
- Qualified to BS7671 (18th Edition) and BS7909 standards, and strong practical knowledge in lighting, sound, or AV.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage resources, and communicate effectively, including chairing complex technical meetings and deputising for senior staff.
- Skilled in coaching, mentoring, and delivering in depth training, while actively pursuing personal and team development through relevant courses and industry engagement.
- Experienced in managing projects with financial and customer impact, contributing to committees and working groups, and identifying service improvements.
- Competent in MS Office, with strong negotiation skills and awareness of industry trends.
