The role focuses on enhancing asset performance, developing Standard Maintenance Procedures, and leading
continuous improvement initiatives. The Senior Maintenance Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of assets. This position is responsible for conducting root cause analysis of incidents, implementing corrective actions, and driving the area improvement plan. The engineer will support technical executionteams by providing expert advice, guiding complex repairs, and optimizing maintenance activities.This role also includes mentoring junior maintenance engineers, fostering their professional growth, and ensuring theteam's alignment with operational excellence and safety standards.
Position Specific Accountabilities :
Incident Investigation and data collection:
- Lead and actively participate in 5 Whys and Level 2 and 3 Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) studies assigned tothe department, to identify and address recurring failures and issues, collaborating closely with Reliability
Engineers, Process, and Operations teams. Review of most frequent issues and actions impacting OEE
productivity.
- Assist in gathering and analyzing data related to equipment performance, failure patterns, and maintenance
activities, using this information to drive improvements and enhance long-term asset reliability.
- Ensure the development of equipment modification plans based on data insights, feedback from maintenance
technicians, and OEM recommendations.
- Support the review and optimization of Preventive Maintenance (PM) strategies to reduce failure rates and
improve overall maintenance effectiveness.
Improvement Initiatives:
- Drive proactively improvements to enhance asset lifecycle and reliability. He/she leads and coordinates the 5-
Year Improvement Plan, collaborating with OEMs, Engineering, and other stakeholders to propose and
implement strategies that extend asset life and optimize performance.
- Review and optimize Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) metrics,
developing and implementing Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs), engineering controls, and design
improvements where necessary.
- Identify and champion continuous improvement opportunities within the maintenance process, taking the lead
on initiating changes and ensuring their successful completion (e.g., creating MOCs or one-pagers).
- Lead and participate in Management of Change (MOC) reviews for both OPEX and CAPEX projects, ensuring
that improvements are effectively executed and integrated.
- Identify and address underperforming assets, working with the maintenance superintendent and Operations to
propose improvements
- Contribute to the optimization of Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs, ensuring critical spare parts
inventory is accurately managed and aligned with operational needs.
- Chair and facilitate the Weekly Reliability meeting, ensuring actions are tracked and completed in online tools.
Also, ensure standardization of equipment spare parts based on the obsolete.
Support to Execution Teams:
- Provide technical support, troubleshooting methods and expert advice to the Supervisors, particularly for
complex repair works or when higher expertise is required.
- Review Work Methods proposed by Maintenance Supervisors for complex repairs to ensure the execution of
repairs in the most efficient and effective manner. Ensuring the methods are supported with special tools when
required.
- Collaborate with planners to establish tolerances, material specifications, and BOM job plans for maintenance
activities.
- Support planners in identifying the required spares for significant and critical assets to minimize downtime.
- Develop, maintain, update, and correct Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs) for the plants, ensuring
alignment with best practices and continuous improvement.
Other missions:
- Collaborate with the Supply Chain Management (SCM) team to ensure that equipment purchase specifications
are met, and that QAQC documentation is provided for all purchases.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior maintenance engineers, supporting their professional
development and ensuring alignment with safety and operational standards.
- Supervise specific activities during critical periods, such as Major Overhauls, Turnaround Shutdowns or Total
Plant Shutdowns (TPSD).
Qualifications
Knowledge - Required knowledge, certification and accreditations :
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Maintenance, or Brevet de Technicien Supérieur (BTS) or Higher National Diploma (HND) or Associate Degree or Advanced Technician Diploma or Higher Technician Diploma (superior level) in relatedfield.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a maintenance engineering role within a hazardous process plant environment, with a track record of successfully supporting maintenance execution teams, troubleshooting
complex issues, and driving process improvements.
Experience :
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in industrial maintenance, with hands-on involvement in execution, planning, or
engineering roles, preferably in hazardous process environments (oil & gas, chemical, or heavy industry).
- Proven experience in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems across a variety of equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work alongside multidisciplinary teams, providing technical support and guidance to ensure the successful execution of maintenance activities.
- Experience in conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions, with a focus on reducing
repeat failures and improving asset reliability.
- Experience supporting Maintenance Management initiatives, including the development of Standard Maintenance
Procedures (SMPs), improving asset life cycle, and optimizingmaintenance plans.
Technical Skills:
- Maintenance Management Software: Proficiency in CMMS (e.g., Maximo, SAP, EAM) for managing maintenance workflows, asset management, and tracking maintenance performance metrics.
- Root Cause Analysis & Failure Analysis: Strong knowledge of methodologies like 5 Whys, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) to identify and resolve issues affecting asset reliability.
- Reliability Metrics & Performance Monitoring: Familiarity with key metrics such as Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), and the ability to develop and implement strategies to improve these metrics.
- Preventive and Predictive Maintenance: Ability to support the development, implementation, and optimization of Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) programs.
