JOB TITLE
Ex Tech (Ex Specialist / Inspector) - Ruya Batch 1 MP FOPS
Working Location
Onshore positions based in China and Korea, offshore positions based in Qatar.
Full-time onshore work during construction in yards in Qingdao, China. Offshore rotation during Hook-Up and Commissioning (HUC) phase on Al Shaheen Field, Qatar. Travel between sites may be required. Offshore work is on a 28 days on / 28 days off rotation.
Contract Type
Initial contract until 30 September 2028 with the possibility of further extension.
Key Responsibilities
Accountabilities
During the onshore commissioning phase on yard, the EX Tech will assist the Field Operations Lead by:
- Updating and confirming EX Registered.
- Following all Pre-Comm activities on EX equipment.
- Reviewing Electrical related Operational Test Procedures (OTPs).
- Executing Electrical related OTPs.
- Executing Electrical related commissioning tasks (loop test, function test, etc.).
- Preparing black start procedures and operating various electrical equipment.
The EX Tech will be accommodated in offshore temporary accommodations and will support commissioning activities as a Field Operation representative on Electrical matters.
In close collaboration with the Operating Authority (OTL) and Commissioning Site Leader (CSL), responsibilities include:
- Assisting the production team during commissioning activities within Electrical scopes.
- Supporting the production team to ensure a safe first power up.
- Ensuring the proper preparation of electrical startup procedures leading to first oil.
- Advising the major project team for the proper preparation of first power-up.
Activities
- Identify and implement procedures and precautions for safe startup activities in conjunction with the EX Supervisor.
- Finalize detailed power-up sequences with the Start-Up Supervisor and core field operation crew.
- Participate in and assist with kick off meetings for power-up activities.
- Engage in risk assessments for startup activities.
- Liaise with Field Operations leads to coordinate the power-up progress.
- Contribute to updating start-up monitoring tools.
- Participate in Permit To Work meetings related to power-up and Electrical commissioning activities.
- Witness Electrical Operational Tests performed by commissioning and communicate with the field operation team.
- Assist Start-Up Supervisors in preparing requests and orders for required power-up tools, ensuring their proper storage and identification.
- Check EX and Electrical B and C punch lists, investigate as requested by leadership.
- Advise Start-Up Supervisor on inhibition and isolation lists, ensuring associated certificates and risk assessments are properly signed and validated.
- Participate in Hazid, JSA, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews for new facilities on Electrical matters.
- Contribute to the Incident Free initiative by reporting any anomaly, defect, bad practice, lack of equipment, or lack of competence.
- Review and follow up on the implementation of corrective actions after shutdowns during start-up and communicate with vendors as necessary.
- Ensure key documentation for new facilities is available to the field operations team.
- Ensure operators are informed about new safety systems and process upgrades introduced by the project.
- Maintain local signage and barriers appropriate to the situation, with attention to SimOps areas, exit walkways, and scaffolds.
- Support teams with procedures for electrical isolations and de-isolations.
- Suggest improvements and modifications if operating procedures are unsatisfactory.
All staff must be willing to participate in crisis response training and assist during emergency response situations if required.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience Required
- Education: Higher national diploma or certificate (equivalent to A-levels plus two years of further study).
- Industry Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in oil and gas production operations.
- Proven ability to work independently while maintaining effective working relationships.
- Demonstrated operational responsibility for EX equipment and willingness to challenge and intervene for safety.
- Qualified EX inspector (Compex certified).
- Previous experience with offshore operations, Electrical scopes, and EX inspections.
- Willingness to work flexible and extended shifts as required.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Computer literate.
Professional or HSE Certifications
- Basic firefighting certification.
- T-BOSIET and H2S training (OPITO approved).
- NOC PTW training & JSA awareness.
- Hazard and energy control, logout & tagout awareness.
