Description
The role is to undertake maintenance and engineering tasks in support of the sites requirements for safety, regulatory action and productivity. A time served electrical, control and instrument technician is required to support a busy engineering team undertaking preventative and reactive maintenance in an upper tier COMAH site. Safety is the number one priority for this role.

- To understand the MAPP and Safety and Environment Management Systems.
- To comply with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and arrangements.
- Where applicable, to inspect before use, and use correctly, the plant equipment, machinery and personal protective equipment provided, and take corrective action within your competency level and report to line management any defects identified.
- To report all Health, Safety and Environmental accidents, incidents and near misses promptly.
- To act in a safe and responsible manner at all times
- Not to use any new equipment, or carry out any modification or change of process or system of work, without first ensuring that adequate assessment and authorisation has been carried out through the Management of Change procedure.
- Where appropriate, to only undertake work for which you have been appropriately trained.
- In the event of an abnormal situation or emergency, to carry out the necessary actions to ensure your own safety and that of others, in accordance with the site Emergency Procedures, and to be available to be part of the Emergency Response Team in line with your training, specialist skills and Departmental expertise.
- To provide specialist support and advice to Site Management on engineering matters at all stages of the Company's operations to mitigate against major accident or incident.
- Implementation and control of standards used in the construction, inspection, operation and maintenance of plant and equipment to maintain the appropriate level of integrity.
- Liaison with statutory, industry and academic bodies on matters relating to construction, inspection, operation and maintenance of chemical manufacturing facilities.
- Responsible for the installation of new plant, and changes to existing plant and equipment, to appropriate standards within the Management of Change system.
- To act as the facilities subject-matter-expert on matters of mechanical integrity, including providing an appropriate review of 3rd party equipment assessment reports
Duties include but not limited to:
- Read, understand and implement all applicable company / project policies, working practices and procedures, ensuring at all times that the electrical, control and instrumentation maintenance and installation tasks are completed safely and to a high standard.
- Conduct fault finding activities against electrical systems (including 415v 3 phase systems), DCS/PLC control systems and digital/analogue instruments. Complete all tasks in accordance with applicable instructions, associated procedures and drawings / sketches.
- Provide support to other trades/disciplines where required, or form part of an integrated multi-discipline team. Conduct isolations of electrical components to support safe working practices.
- Conduct prescribed inspection routines and alarm/trip testing to comply with the UK COMAH safety management system plan.
- Apply for relevant permits to work (PTW) in order to complete tasks in a controlled and safe manner.
- Undertake appropriate Risk Assessments and Non-Routine Job Assessments (NRJ) in order to complete tasks in a safe and controlled manner. Complete reliability based preventative maintenance tasks as directed.
- Implement and deliver the benefits of an effective Maintenance and Reliability strategy to Continuously Improve functional performance aligned to Operational Excellence and Business Goals.
- Active participation in continuous improvement and other lean manufacturing initiatives
- To take responsibility for learning and development in the spirit of continuous improvement of both self, the team and the business
- To assist in the training, mentoring and assessment of other team members
- To exercise autonomy and judgement

- 4 Year Apprenticeship or Level 2 NVQ equivalent
- "COMPEX 1-4 (Training to be provided, and successful completion required within first 6 months of employment"
Experience: (industry and job specific)
- Demonstrable experience post electrical, control and instrumentation apprenticeship/training coupled with current relative experience.
- Experience conducting electrical role in an upper tier COMAH site, preferably in the chemical manufacturing industry.
- Experience of working in hazardous areas (ATEX/DSEAR) including understanding of BS EN60079.
- Experience of fault finding on DCS/PLC and hardwired control and instrumentation systems.
- Experience of 415v 3 phase electrical systems
- Experience with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
