At Vestas, our offshore technicians play a vital role in keeping wind turbines operating safely and efficiently at sea, helping to deliver clean energy to the UK. This apprenticeship offers a structured and supported way to begin a career in offshore wind, combining learning, hands on experience, and real responsibility in a safety focused environment.
As an Offshore Service Technician Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced Vestas technicians and gain practical experience maintaining offshore wind turbines. • Develop mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical fault finding skills under supervision
  • Work safely at heights and in offshore environments, handling tools and complex equipment correctly
  • Support the planning of maintenance tasks by helping prepare tools, spares, and materials
  • Assist with troubleshooting turbine components and learning how repair and replacement decisions are made
  • Learn how work activities, materials, and time are recorded using Vestas systems to support accurate reporting and continuous improvement
  • Always follow Vestas Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards and safe working practices

Qualifications
  • Scotland: Strong National 5s and/or Highers in Mathematics and/or Physics
  • England: GCSEs (Grade 5/C or above) and/or A-Levels in Mathematics and/or Physics
  • Equivalent: We also welcome relevant Level 3 vocational certifications (e.g., BTEC Nationals, T-Levels, or City & Guilds) in Engineering or Science disciplines

Location Requirement
  • The first year of the programme is college-based in Arbroath, Scotland
  • As the apprenticeship progresses, you must be willing and able to travel to wind farm sites across the UK

Other Requirements
  • Ability to work at heights and offshore
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions
  • Minimum age 18 (due to offshore health and safety regulations)

Competencies

We expect that you:
  • Strong commitment to safety and following procedures in high risk environments
  • Curiosity and aptitude for mechanical, electrical, and technical systems
  • Logical approach to problem solving and fault finding
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small, close knit offshore team
  • Clear communication skills and confidence to ask questions when unsure
  • Resilience and adaptability to offshore working patterns and environments
  • Willingness to learn, take feedback, and develop toward a qualified Offshore Service Technician role

What we offer

Our intensive four-year apprenticeship programme combines academic learning, safety and technical training, and hands-on offshore experience. You will benefit from a competitive apprentice salary with a generous offshore working allowance, alongside a comprehensive package that includes a pension scheme, healthcare, dental care, and access to Vestas Perkz. Accommodation and travel are provided when required, and you will receive GWO and Vestas-specific technical training. Upon successful completion, you will be fully qualified to work as an Offshore Service Technician, either based at a specific offshore wind farm or supporting Vestas UK offshore sites, with opportunities to progress into a range of technical and professional pathways as your career develops.
