Your role and responsibilities

Force Measurement is a successful unit (~180 employees) within ABB based on unique electromagnetic inventions. We develop, manufacture and bring to market products for Industrial measurement of "mechanical" properties, force, dimension and strip flatness. This thesis work will focus on the electrical design, automation and documentation of ABB products. You will be cooperating with experts in this field internally and externally. The work will be challenging, and you will work with an experienced team to learn and adapt your solutions. Details: • "20" weeks 2025 • Master Thesis level (30 ECTS/högskolepoäng(hp)). • One student • Västerås You will be responsible for achieving satisfactory results in the field of electrical design and creating a roadmap for future work. Your work scope is diverse but will include: • Learning the electrical aspects of Force Measurement solutions. • Understanding the current work principles of order-based electrical design. • Implementing a select number of the FM electrical components and schematics in EPlan P8 as pilots. • Creating a satisfactory solution architecture and creating a proof of concept for design automation of electrical diagrams. • Assessing the feasibility of implementing automated bill of materials and material master options in SAP. • Proving the feasibility of the overall solution architecture by showcasing your results. • Providing a roadmap for future work to reach a fully automated electrical design process for customer orders.

Qualifications for the role

  • You are in the final year of your studies, preferably in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar.
  • A good understanding of electrical schematics and diagrams, and their implications for manufacturing purposes.
  • Good knowledge of hands-on electrical design software such as EPlan P8 or Autodesk Eagle.
  • Good knowledge of high- and low-level programming languages. Recommended languages are C# and Python.
  • Previous experience with Agile working methods such as Scrum and Kanban is a merit.
  • Experience or knowledge of APIs and macros such as the EPLAN API is a merit.
  • A curious personality with a yearning for challenging yourself.
  • The ability and courage to think outside the box and to see the whole picture.
  • Good knowledge of English.
  • Having a deep passion for automation!
